rollapv75 Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Those lucky Tasmanians, yet another tarmac rally down in the Apple Isle! Are any of the Tassie members involved in the event or going to spectate? It's based out of Hobart. I'm flying down tonight to be in the support crew for Dad's '55 Fiat Abarth 750. Info here: http://www.targawrestpoint.com.au/Competit...c%20Competition If any of you are about come up and say g'day. We'll be in a green Hilux. Hopefully I have a relaxing weekend (READ: Nothing on the car breaks!). Sam. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 If you have good driving road you might as well make the most of them!! :jamie: Won't be making to Hobart for this one, but I work on Targa every year doing audio visual/media stuff. You also coming down for the proper Targa Tas? Quote

You also coming down for the proper Targa Tas? Undoubtedly the best roads for tarmac rally in Aust! We're entered for Targa Tas. Dad has only missed 1 year since '92 (when it started) and that was because he put his knee out. I've recently started a new job and doubt that I'll be able to get the time off work to go down for support duties, particularly as Targa is a longer event. Fingers crossed I can work something out with the boss! Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Just found out we're doing a PA system for this one, I won't be down though. Gimme a yell if you do come down for the big one. :hmm: BTW, check out Whitey's "black stig" inpersonation in the photos!! :jamie: Quote

I'll have to be really nice to the boss for the next month or so! Saw the White's photos, there's a nice shot of the Lambo popping some flames too! Quote
rollapv75 Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 So, just home from Tassie now, slightly sunburnt of all things! The mighty little Fiat came 11th Outright in Early Classic, 5th in category, and 1st in class. So, we are pretty happy with our performance. Keep in mind that we had the big Fords and Holdens in there with us (5.8-6 litres) compared to our 997cc! No major dramas with the car. Had to take off the drive shafts and loctite them after the first day, other than that it was smooth sailing. There were some big offs during the event though, which caused a few of the stages to be downgraded, which was disappointing. In Corolla related news, at the carpark where the cars were kept overnight (Wrest Point Casino), I saw a nice KE70 sedan, actually set off a few car alarms in the carpark as it was a bit noisy! Also, one of the officials had a red KE36 station wagon. The KE corollas are definitely alive and well down in Tassie though, saw lots everywhere! Now, we are counting down 'till the big one Targa Tas - only 80 days to go! Sam. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Saw some news coverage on the weekend. Noticed Tony Quinn has trading in his GT3........ for a GTR!!!! Got me thinking how many will be in Targa this year, as last year the pink DonutKing one was the first in the country. :2thumbs: Quote
rollapv75 Posted February 2, 2009 Author Report Posted February 2, 2009 Saw some news coverage on the weekend. Noticed Tony Quinn has trading in his GT3........ for a GTR!!!! Got me thinking how many will be in Targa this year, as last year the pink DonutKing one was the first in the country. :2thumbs: When Quinn spoke at the presentation, he said he couldn't be happier with the car, and that he wouldn't be surprised if 10 of them were in the event next year. As you said, if he traded in a GT3 for it, he must be REALLY happy, as those GT3s are weapons. Having said that, you have to remember that Richards went from a GT3 back to a GT2, I think some see the GT3 as being a bit too heavy. I guess when you've got that much money and you can steer a car that well, you can afford to be fussy! In total there were 3 of the latest gen skylines, Donut King had 2 entered, 1 ran into problems though I think. For Targa Tas. there are 5 of them entered at the moment. I think you will see more of them in next year's events, particularly after the success Quinn had in the the rally just gone. And I imagine that they will be in the mix for Targa Tas as well. I tell ya what, this sunburn is killing me at work today! I didn't think it was possible to get sunburnt in Tassie! Sam. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 .....Dude the hole in the ozone layer is right above us!!! Plus you were done here for basically our hottest week on record. Scamanda hit 42.8oC on Friday!!!! Quote
rollapv75 Posted February 12, 2009 Author Report Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Hey all, Word on the Targa Grapevine is that a a black Series 1 RX7 was stolen from the Wrest Point Cas after the event on Sunday. Can any of the Tassie boys elaborate further? Apparently the crew left the keys in the car, and someone has jumped in, started it, and driven it out of the car park. Would have taken some balls to steal it considering how many people were around. I guess this serves as a warning for everyone to lock their cars, windows up etc. even if they are ducking into the shops 'for 'just a minute'. I'll admit that I'm guilty of this! Hopefully the boys get the Rotang back in one piece. Sam. PS. Only 74 days 'till Targa Tas! Edited February 12, 2009 by rollapv75 Quote
rollapv75 Posted February 12, 2009 Author Report Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Tough little Fiat that one! Yeah, it goes quite well. Can buzz it to about 8000rpm, top speed of about 115mph. There was an article on it in Tarmac Magazine late last year. Here's some footage from Targa Tas: Note that it hangs near the Torana and Punto until the long straights, but then it gets blown away! Sam. Edited February 12, 2009 by rollapv75 Quote
