i think my oil pump is on its way out or the oil pick up?

its making a ratteling noise at the front of the engine near the timing case

it could be one of many things

timing chain/tensioner

oil pump

oil pickup

it drives fine and makes usual power, just when at lights the oil light flickers

i just did a oil change and still doing same thing

the motor is a 4k out of a early ke70

its had new rings and gaskit kit through whole motor

what to do???

anyone selling a worked 4k? in adelaide

Did you do bearings when you did the rings? Big ends and mains?

The oil light flickering is oil pressure getting down to 7psi, which is when it comes on.

The lack of oil pressure can be three things, faulty sender (unlikely), bearings worn badly, or oil pump wornout.

The rattle could be bearings or timing chain, but I'd say bearings seeing its with the oil light if you didn't change them.

Does it rattle badly for the first 20seconds on startup, with the light on?

The rattling is probably a symptom of low oil pressure, not a cause. Tensioner not getting enough pressure so the timing chain is rattling.

yeah seems like low oil pressure only when idling for 10 secs or more, when the engine was done the timing chain and tensioner wernt done

how do i change the timing chain? its only a single row chain

I had a 4k with a swarf under the oil pump bypass valve once that was doing that, the second possibility the timing cover is being ground away slowly by the timing chain, the swarf blocking the suction screen.
