Hey guys, I've been noticing my seca has been using quite alot of fuel lately and I'm wondering what to look for first?

i noticed the fuel injecters swivel around loosely but I'm not sure if thats normal.

i think the engine just needs a good tune up.

Had the same problem with a customers car few weeks back. Followed the diagnosis on the manual plus logging a lean mixture code.

 

After many hours of checking sensors and wiring, found it was the oxgen sensor was covered in carbon from poor fuel quality.

 

cleaned if off carefully and code went away and car started to run better.

 

NOTE! not saying this is the fix for your car as there was alot of other options in the trouble shooting section of the manual.

 

Id be checking for blocked air filter, fouled spark plugs, vac leaks such as injector seals, manifold gaskets, vac lines ect

Recheck your ignition timing. Just some of the things to check.

 

Just give it some time there may be better answers to your question from the more knowledgable.

Gregorys manual is well worth it, this for an AE92, 102 or 112?

Diagnostics check would be the first thing I'd do, bridge the T and E1 connectors in the diagnostics terminal with a paperclip, then see what code the Check Engine Light flashes up. If nothing comes up from that, check for things like leaking injectors, spark plug condition, O2 sensor condition, dirty air filter, blocked throttle body, MAP sensor, etc, basically anything which has to do with controlling the amount of air or fuel going into the engine.

 

Out of interest, what kind of economy are you getting now? Does it feel like it has lost power as well?

Its a AE92 and I've only owned the car for 2 weeks but out of a full tank ive used well over half in only about 180km.

The power is still there but i've got nothing to compare it too except my old AE82 seca witch has a carby.

Have you filled it up yet? Go on actual k's travelled and litres put in, that way you can rule out a dodgy fuel guage or sender.

Found the reason.

The Timing belt adjuster pully had siezed up and was wearing away the timing belt.

Ended up ripping a few teeth off the belt and it slipped 180 degrees or something me old man said.

Anyways she's all good and now reall damage to the engine, should be fixed by tuesday.
