NWSslider Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 hi everyone after counselling with people everyone is saying that i have broken the input shaft as well as the clutch the car starts in gear no clutch doesnt stall and i can change gears with out clutch but the gears don't engage it just sounds like freespin i was wondering how much and what do i have to do to fix the first problem thanks Quote
drc_ke20 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 input shaft maybe but it sounds like its only a clutch to me. your pressure plate could have collapsed?thats why you can start in gear and no movement on the car? Quote
slapper Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 If you're not hearing grinding noises (pressure plate etc flopping around inside the carrier), then it's more likely you've done the input shaft. There's no escaping it ... you're going to have to pull the transmission out and have a look. cost? Can't tell until we know what the damage is. You could be up for new flywheel, clutch, input shaft, bearings etc etc ... cheers, Slapper Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Have you checked to see if the tailshaft is rotating also? Long shot but you could have also blow the spider gears out of the diff!!! Quote
slapper Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Long shot but you could have also blow the spider gears out of the diff!!! That's a point ... you might have just broken an axle even ... Quote
NWSslider Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 but it starts in gear without clutch and doesnt move or stall and also you can change gears without the clutch but i do not smell any clutch it is a mechanical clutch tho Quote
LukeAE71 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 but it starts in gear without clutch and doesnt move or stalland also you can change gears without the clutch but i do not smell any clutch it is a mechanical clutch tho It will still start in gear and not move if you have a broken axle. I suggest starting it in neutral, looking underneath it while someone lets the clutch out. If the tailshaft is spinning it is not your gearbox and it will be something diff related. Quote
