I'm pretty sure this engine came from a ae92 corolla, but I'm not sure what has been done to it

its a bigport 4age 16v with a 6 bolt crank.

now i did a bit of looking around and it seems that most 4age cranks have 8 bolts,

i know that 4ac flywheels are 6 bolt, anyone know if that would work?

anyone come across this before? i can't seem to find much info

I have heard of a rare 4age with a 6 bolt crank.

BUT its mostlikely a bigport head on a 4ac, the 4ac bottom end will not be balenced at all be haevy and crap, will break if you try to rev it hard.

Get a proper 4age bottom end and save yourself the trouble :bash:

Cheers.

thanks travis,

4ac is 6 bolt as said, and also as said its crap because its not a fully counter-weighted or forged. I am guessing its 4af and neither one is good. It sure as hell isnt a 7A crank or block I can tell you that. I say use it up to 7000RPM or pull it apart and see whats going on. Maybe its a perfect excuse for a 7afe bottom end if thats your thing.

hmm, a 7afe bottom end might work, but a 16v bottom end would be more rev happy though wouldn't it?

could you use a 16v head on a silvertop 20v bottom end?

On the 4age there's a bracket that mounts between the intake manifold and down around the bottom of the block. Intake stay or something. The 4a-f versions have the boss but it hasn't been tapped and from memory the 4a-c doesn't have it at all.

Pistons are different for the 20v. And you'd have to watch the valve to piston space cause the 20v is a interference design unlike the 16v. But apart from that its been used for turbo builds. From what i've read on club4ag is that the big port is the way to go with a turbo build.

yes it would not be so free revving from what people tell me. You would also need to reduce your max revs. I am a high rev and power high in the revs sort of guy, so I stay with a 1.6L bottom end.

Interesting info on that boss, I will have to look into that. A stock silvertop isnt an interference engine. I can confirm this without a doubt because I had a key in my timing gear decide to make an exit at 8500RPM. I was running a 0.8mm gasket at the time too. The blacktop is a very different story though, I do believe I have managed to have valve to piston contact just by turning one of the cams over cold, but I havent confirmed it for sure.

Yeah, the 4a-f that i had was a bit of an eye opener i guess cause there was a few other differences as well, like, it was fwd use only. It had the bosses there for the rwd mounts but they weren't tapped.

Never knew that with the silver top. I was always under the impression that it was just the 20v motors in general being interference

you could always take the sump off, you could then see if it had a fully counter balanced crank (then it would be a proper 6bolt 4ag)

but being that it was from a ae92 id be thinking along the lines of the other guys.
