Beams Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Got my hands finally on a Carter 4594, will have a hand at installing it this weekend. I wired up the fuel relay last weekend, using a horn relay 30-40A. The car is carby mechanically driven fuel pump. What do I need to know? Do I need to empty out the fuel tank? I was going to just lay newspapers on the floor, is there a better way to catch the fuel left in the lines? Sounding silly, but any tips appreciated. Quote
towe001 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I'm not really sure what the carter pump looks like. But anywhat, when you go to mount it, bolt it down no rubber grommets or something rubber and thick to stop vibrations going through the car. Electrically, wire the switch side of the relay to the battery side of the coil - so that the pump doesn't run while the ignition is off. Fuel lines - pull the fuel line off the filter and find a bolt or something that can plug the hose so that when you go to cut the hose near the tank you'll have something that can plug the hose tank side of the pump. And connect the hose on the engine side of the pump first. And see about running a filter between the tank and the pump. Just use a clean ice cream container to catch the fuel spills Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Carter's have one of the best anti-vabration mounting brackets you can get wuith an after market pump so you won't need to worry about rubber grommets etc - They're built into the bracket. You're biggest problem is going to be big fittings on the pump and little fuel hoses. Go see somebody like hydraquip/Enzed and get some appropiate sized fittings. Quote
