You might want to check what engine it has. No 1997 Corolla anywhere in the world has ever had anything close to a 3.0L engine stock, so either it's a typo (either in engine size or car type, could be a Camry) or seriously modified.

 

And we can't exactly offer advice on timing belt changes etc without knowing what engine it is

Hi yeah its a camry, dunno why i said its a corrolla sorry bout that.

there should be a little tensioner with a spring on it. losen it off, turn the engine by hand and then retighten the tensioner... otherwise it could be hydrolic tensioner... i can't remember which model has that...
