And all in all there is a great little 4age S1 Seca for sale on rollaclub. Its in SA, but a great little car...Let me know if our interested.

just get one in good condition, keep it clean tidy and well maintained, pop some sensible wheels on it (try 15's) with really good rubber, don't make the exhaust too loud, and enjoy driving it.... nothing like a little car with good rubber and good air conditioning as the daily driver!!

 

ours has monroe gt gas shock absorbers all round and a lot of nolethane suspension bushes courtesy of previous owner, and new steering rack bushes (that I put in!!) with pirelli tyres on 14" stock steel rims (actually off a kia jb rio) and aside from the engine burning oil its wonderfully quiet and has great air conditioning and handles brilliantly.

 

I have 185/60r14's on it at the moment (stock size is 175/65r14) and it was either going to be those or the 195/50r15 depending on what rims I got cheap, it turned out I had my choice of either 14's off a rio or 15's off a jazz.... was thinking about toyota yaris 15" hubcaps lol.... I have no problems with nice black steel wheels as long as the tyres are good!!

 

the previous owner had retreads on the car, with the front two being chomped out from having 16mm toe in.... hmmm.... and the steering rack moving 20-30mm wouldn't have helped either.... its all good now lol...

 

I wouldn't stress too much about modifying it, if you are keen, do little things at a time but make sure you look after it and keep it in good condition. I'm sure a set of ceramic coated or heat bandaged extractors and an exhaust pipe 1/4" or 1/2" larger with *good* mufflers wouldn't hurt anything! cold air induction is always a good thing too!

Thanks for your posts guys, I will make sure to keep your ideas in mind when getting the car. I just wanna take things one step at a time. First thing I need to do is actually get my license back, but other then that I wanted to do my research before getting it back. Oh and corolla_nut, I am definitely the type of person that takes care of his car; I pay a lot of attention to detail and everything has a spot for it to be placed in. Air conditioning, mechanicals and aesthetics will all be taken care of as much as I can.

 

So far I am thinking of getting the SX 4age, as that is what most of you have suggested and what most of you are commenting on. My cousin came over today (he used to own an SX also, 4age) and told me that he loved the car and it was perfect. He started with the smaller engine beforehand but then installed the 4age afterwards and loved it; had no problems at all with it.

 

If and when I do get the car, these are the modifications I am thinking about getting:

• Exhaust system (unknown size; please recommend)
  
• Sound system
  
• Rims (suggestions gladly accepted)
  
• Lowered (also wanting to know what looks best)
  

Now no offence, I don't want to make my car look like a sick wog car, I just want it to look good, do what I want and allow me to cherish and enjoy it. I've never driven one, but every time I see one I just picture it as being my own car.

 

Keen to hear back from you guys. I am going to update my signature with all the things I'm doing to it all taken from this topic so that I have a clear set of 'modifications' and what not when the car is finally in my hands.

Hey, I wouldn't go that far! Commodores are mad cars. I've only ever driven Holdens, and my parents Toyota Prado and my girlfriends Nissan Pulsar.

Well there's no such thing as a standard 7age. There's the 4age sx or the 7afe ultima/rv.

 

If you're planning on going the 7age route then its a fair amount of messing around and money to be spent if you want to do it properly. Just go the sx as the smallport 4age really is a fantastic fun little engine.

 

For an exhaust go 2.25" mandrel bent, rims either 15's or 16's, and most people find lovells sports lows on kyb's are a good combo. But that's all to worry about if you actually get the car so concentrate on that first :)
