LukeAE71 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Ok I am about to do this so thought I would open it up for discussion and hopefully get some extra things to add to the FAQ/Knowledge Base This is how I currently understand what to do: Front Use KE55/70 backing plates, hubs and discs calipers etc to change to 114.3 pcd, this requires some drilling of the holes on the struts of the KE1x only to enlarge them for larger bolts on the KE70 backing plates? Rear Use KE30 axles with a few mm ground off the spline end to shorten them so they fit. A few questions though: 1.Are there two different types of KE30 diff (thought there was) and if so which axles are needed for this conversion 2. What is the width of a KE30 diff, if it is similar to a KE1x why not throw the whole lot in 3. Is there anything else I am missing regarding the front setup? Any other tips would be great as I have some rims in 114.3 which need to go on!!! Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Wheels are gonna looke awesome on your little beast. You'll need Axles ouit of an early KE30 (Jap built/pre Mid77) for the as they have the same type (banjo) diff as the KE1x and Jap ke2x. Just look for a KE30 with no inspection plate on the rear of the diff, Banjo's centers bolt in from the front. With This conversion it will also allow you to run KE30 drums. and you might even be able to bolt up a set of KE55 drums which are larger again (substantialy) over Jap KE30's KE30/55's front brake package bolt right up with no mods apparantly. KE55's have lager brakes over KE30's Quote

Also the drums are narrower on the ke1x to the ke2x onwards.... The axles have a shorter distance from the wheel bearing to the mounting face for the drums. The ke2x diff and later can be made to fit.. You need to mod the handbrake and the leaf spring mounts. You also need to take into account that the ke2x on diffs are wider and will have a wider track.
