We have had a couple of problems since putting in the 7k and 5spd.

The first one is last night Craig sheared the nuts off the tailshaft bolts.

He swears he hasn't been loading it up. Has this happen to anyone else?

The other problem is its started overheating. At first it took half an hour

to get hot but over the week this has shortened to about 5 minutes.

I won't get to see the car for a few days so any ideas would be apreciated.

welcome to torque :n: get some high tensile bolts and split washers and nylocs, make sure it's all new stuff

thermostat stuck from sitting for so long? what cooling system (radiator, fan, shroud) are you running?

I know a bloke who is constantly shearing the tail shaft bolts off his 7K ke30. It always seems to happen when he isnt driving sensibly. Its funny how that happens. But your sons experience could just be bad luck, and like Jamie said, welcome to "Torque".

Your running coolant for a start? (someone had to ask) :n:

Radiator could be blocked = $120ish Reco or 3 Core is $230

Water Pump may not be functioning properly = Replace

Using a standard fan and shroud works the best.

I run a 3 core radiator with standard fan and shroud. I also have a 12" thermo fan infront of the radiator incase it decides to cook in Summer. I've never had a problem with this setup.

Thanks guys. We had deffinately noticed the extra torque.

With the over heating this might explain why there was a

thermo in the other car. It wasn't working so we assumed

it hadn't been needed

ASS/U/ME need i say more

We had stuck with the plastic fan and shroud.

Will put the thermo fan on tonight and put the

3 core higher up the list of parts when monies

are avaliable. Pleased to know its a common

problem. Makes trouble shooting a hell of a

lot easier. Hope i haven't spoken to soon

If you do decide to go ahead with the 3 core radiator - Then give this guy a call.

Springvale Radiators

14 Clive St Springvale 3171 (03) 9562 4700

(its off centre rd, near Repco).

I had mine done for $230. That included fitting the core, Stretching the bottom and top tanks to take the extra width of the core, moving the fixing points to compensate for the extra width and a new radiator cap.

Natrad in Sth Melbourne quoted $320. Morale of the story is "Shop Around".
