  1. So glad to see this thread was saved :) I still get a good laugh. was funny then and still is now
  2. hi son shame your so far away or you could have my ke70 for parts. oh yeah just got the internet connected

  3. I should get sloth to check what the box is behind his 7k. I know the shifter position was back further than the original ke55 4spd. we only get about 5400rpm max but is very torquey. Great to see another twin carb 7k. I felt a bit of a loner when I did Sloths in 2005. Our mechanic said we could probably lower the diff to 3.9 for a better top end.
  4. You're a sick puppy! I love it. We get about 100kw and thats plenty in a rolla. What figures would you hope
  5. I don't know how well the e.f.i fits in but our 7k with a carbie fits straight in once you change the sump and modify the oil pick up. The biggest thing we have noticed is that with the extra torque of the 7k(and there is shitloads) that we need to lower the diff ratio to bring the gaerbox into play. We run a standard 4.1 diff and I think a 3.7 would be more suited. We sheared the tailshaft bolts when we put the motor in so we now use high tensile bolts The diff itself seems not to have a prob with the power or torque. Glad to see more 7K's going in. The extra torque is probably a bit extreme but its a hell of a lot of FUN and thats what ROLLA's are all about!
  6. Sloths 7k sits straighter than the 4k. We ran a 3k inlet manifold and 4k carb and they fitted perfecly. The sump of a 3 or 4k will fit you just need to modify the oil pick up. Things like gearbox, manifolds and engine mounts were a staight bolt up. All Kmotors are basically the same block! Are you going to run e.f.i or carbies
  7. Definately try the 5K. If your to scared to do it yourself shop around and find a good mechanic who doesn't mind you sticking your nose into what he is doing. That is what Craig and I did with the 7K Next motor I am going to be far more confident to try.
  8. GIMME,gimme, gimme That looks so sweeeet!
  9. Ok we've got the car back. The reason the valves weren't opening properly was that they were that distorted that by the time they came out the motor would hardly run. Anyways its going pretty good. We need to change the airfilters for trumpets. Seems to have turbulance problems at the face of the carbies.(I'm told this is not uncommon) So we're down a little on power but compared to what we have had its awesome. Shit loads of torque. Over the next few months Craig will take it to Calder legal street drags and do a dyno run so we can get some real figures. The motor feels extremely strong so my plans to supercharge it and lower the dif ratio are still looking the way to go. Next years project!
  10. Cats make good speed humps. Much easier on the suspension
  11. Explorijng the 626 idea does seem like an alternative. Check on the regs about drop tanks. I know at onetime Vicroads(Boos and hisses) were pretty strict on them. The donut gas tank is a good idea. That way you can pull out the petrol tank and fit the spare and a sub! p.s. Surprised noone has had a serios go at this?
  12. I like his diff and brake upgrades. Bet they set him back a pretty penny!
  13. Don't worry so am I I will see exactly next week then I can explain better
  14. Nah! Actually it was the opposite. They weren't opening properly. I will have to get the mechanic to explain it properly. We also thought it was wrong jets but with the inlet valves not opening properly it sort of explains it
  15. The ethernol fuel avaliable in Australia now is far better than that of 4 or 5 years ago. The ethenol is refined to a better standard. I know this for a fact as I have been making the vessels for the refineries. Diesel has also been vastly improved! p.s. The ethanol is is refined from Queensland sugarcane at Sarina
  16. Everything says we should get 120+hp. Just how much the + is we will find out. Desperately trying to do the dyno before I leave.
  17. Okay the inlet valves were sitting lower. Our thought was that the collet was thinner. This wasn't the problem after all The valves were made to suit the motor unfortunately someone forgot to hardface the inlet valves. The engineer is makeing a new set but it means another week without it. NOW WE SHOULD GET SOME REAL POWER!
  18. My XB GS 351. It had major work done to it.(Piad for but not done by me) It had some wild cam,Shelby cobra heads and god knows what else. It started with a standard c10 tranny, then a celica 5spd,then back to the c10 with full manual valve bodies. Tried a number of carbies, Holly 950dbl pump,Quad Delauto's but worked best with Holly 850dbl pump. Extractors and 2"twin stainless exhaust Tyre's front 14x60 265 rear 14x50x355 Ran mid 12sec. Best time was by someone else so it doesn't count
  19. Well we've been having trouble with the carb's on the 7k or so we thought. Finally got the motor in for a tighten down. It was suposed to happen at 600km's and Craig's managed about 1400. Okay our problem has been the motor is running rich at the lower revs but leans right out over 3500rpm When the rocker covers came off this morning you could see the inlet valves weren't level with the exhaust valves. It looks as if the wrong collets have been put in on the inlet. As I left the mechanic he was removing the heads to send to the engineering shop for them to fix. Atleast it isn't costing as it was thier mistake. Hopefully I can give a final report before I leave for Queensland.
  20. Nice job. :) Any ideas yet to what you will cover them with
  21. The last couple of weeks I've been watching initial D. On Friday night at a party Craig and I had a very Bunta/Takumi moment. It was like a scene out of the show. It went something like this. Craig: (very apprehensive)Dad the 7K is pretty slow off the mark since it was rebuilt Me: (choking on scotch, with heart dropping out arsehole)WADAYOUMEAN? Craig: Well when I take off it sort of crawls off, then when its about 2300rpm it realy takes off Me:(with heart making its way back home)Ah! Young Takumi son,you must keep the revs at or above this magical 2300rpm In a nutshell Craig has never driven a car with a cam and I hadn't thought to explain the need for change to his driving style. One thing about this motor is that it has a powerband reminiscent of a 2 stroke motor bike. (At the bottom end anyway) I was wondering how many of you guys experienced this when you first drove a hot motor. I know I did.
  22. Find a K manifold without the huge lump underneath Check through the wreckers. If you were here in Melb,Oz I could give you one I think ours came off a 3K
  23. My son was given a KE30 that was on its last legs. I said I would help clean it up and sent him out to find a donor car. He came back with a $275 dollar KE55 which is now the SLOTHMOBILE which is pretty well documented here on rollaclub
  24. I plan on getting an old rolla when I get up there, The Merc cost's to much as a daily driver. Not to sure what model I want, as long as it is RWD. Might go the Takumi trip if I can find an AE86. Don't supose there are to many lying around up there
