To the guys in Vic I appoligise for missing the cruise. Since getting back from holidays things have been hectic. While in Queensland I was checking out the job situation and have decided to move to Gladstone. Better money, better work. I'm madly trying to sort things out at home and finish Craigs corolla before leaving. Still hope to do a dyno run on the 7k but time is short. I hope to getaway in about a fortnight.

Trev, i totally understand where your coming from but i will say i've seen the guts of our 7k and i believe it will rev 7000 to 8000 allday long, but why would you when max power and torque are under 7000
-
The rods in a 7k aren't toothpicks, idon't know who you've been talking to? The 4age has more hp but less torque. We still can't give details as we are sorting the carbies still.(been in the whitsundays for 3 weeks) At the moment we lack hp. I'm really dumb i've always thought it was the torque that allows you to steer with the accelerator. You learn something new everyday

So whats the go on the Eastern meeet point. Are we meeting with toymods or seperatly. Can tell your not from this side of town Chaddy is the last place to meet. To busy! Have you spoken to anyone from Toymods? Sorry I haven't spoken sooner I've just got back

Supercharged has always been on the drawing board. We'll see how it goes for the next twelve months(can't go to quick).

Yeah just standard engine mounts. The sump was already on the motor when we bought it. The mechanic did the lifter conversion. I will try and get specifics and post it with the rest of the info when I get back from holidays p.s A word of thanks to the guys at South East Carbies They were flat out but when I explained the situation and that I was about to go on hols they squeezed me in He is staying back to finish them. I'm more used to being told Stiff luck.

It is pretty much all there in FAQ. If you read through the DIFFS section Its just a bit like a jigsaw

We're using a 3k sump. chev solid lifters, theres many a thread about the fact the stand GM solids fit perfectly in a K motor The E.F.I. was already gone when we bought it I'm using a Lynx manifold(direct from Lynx saved heaps) and I need to make extensions for the carbies as the 7K doesn't seem to lean over as far as the 4K's do.

All up I don't know yet. I haven't got the final bill, but heres an approximate We bought a KE30 with the 7k in it. We took the 7K, 5speed box, extractors, 2in sports exhaust. That was $800 The extras needed,(electric fuel pump, flow regulator, inlet maifold ramflo air filters, fuel line and fittings) they were $500 The engineers, things like honing the block, clean and machining head for larger valve, port matching) That was $1400 The rest of the parts, (cam, valve springs, solid lifters, anything and everything required) including assembly ready to drop in and turn key. Quoted $1000 Expect $1200-$1300 So I guess all up the project doesn't leave change from $4000. Hopefully anyone trying this can cut cost by doing more themself. I'm quite happy to share any information I have

This is why I was so keen to do a 7K. The difference in the strength of the 7k bottom end saved us a lot of time and money that we were able to put in the heads which Toyota neglected to improve very much over the 4K head

To run it in Craig has been told to drive between 2000 and 5000 rpm for the first six hundred kms. today he was complaining that he can't get out of third gear most of the time and is still waiting to use fifth. The guy who put it all together for us took it for a run yesterday to bed the pistons in. He hit 7000 in fourth and scared the absolute shit out of me. :D I'm use to having a big car around me at those sort of speeds. Carbies are leaking a little air so we will get them sorted as we run it in but all things look pretty positive. We will get it dyno'd in five or six weeks andthat will tell the tale. It is so ;) cool

Its in!! Sounds f@#king awesome :D Haven't driven it yet, got a couple of adjustments to make. I just can't get over the sound of it. I'm gunna mess my pants. It's the hardest sounding Kmotor I've heard. Who cares if I'm biased ;)
-
Just a quick one. I picked up the 7k today. I'm in love I will give an up date when its in That should be tomorrow arvo. :D ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It is possible. I have had that happen even though it shouldn't Obviously something tends to draw current when the motor warms up. Test your battery and starter motor. If they are okay you need to get a multimeter and find what is drawing the power' This is why you put heatshild in when you have extractors. It is not unkown for your starter to short when hot.

I'm pushing Craig hard to make sure he is on the cruise to show it off.

Great news . I pick up the 7Kon friday. Craig and I will put it in saturday.(if I remember how I plumbed it) :D Should have some idea of how it goes by sunday.

Dyno Results, Mysterious Car, Need More Info
SLOTH Snr replied to bernieboy's topic in General Mechanical
Unfortunately I agree with Faulksy. You can only go so far with n/a before you reach a point that Turbo or Supercharger is cheaper than the mods you need to make for the same gains. What about reliability. The more mods usually more fragile. I like the figures of the 7mgte Can I put one of them in a rolla?? Huh can I? :D -
I would struggle to spend 20k on a rolla. BUT! Since it is make a choice I would choose speed Don't forgett the $5000 paint job is to help with the aerodynamics and the $800 racing seat is to enable you to operate at your optimum.

Good on ya Rice Boy! As I said I will be in QLD but you should set APRIL 2nd as a firm date. That will give time to have cars up and running and make a firm commitment. Take a shit load of photo's for me! Really pissed I'm missing this one

Just a bit of an update The extractor paint seems to be holding. My greasey thumb print is stuck for good That was VHT 1200 deg paint. The engine bay also appears to be holding on. Thats pretty amazing. Now for the 7K The head went on yesterday The rockers are still to be fitted It all slowed right down over christmas The engineer doing the heads went on extended holidays I gave the mercedes to the mechanic to sort out.(That was expensive) and to basically cut cost's letting them just do bits in between other jobs it cut down the billing hours So next weekend is looking possible for the installation. (Soon anyway)Will list all specs when up and running

Go for it Robert! Thats what Rollaclub is about Throw up ideas to others around. Then do something about it. You only reap what you sow!
-
Not that I wouldn't mind seeing a rolla draging its front bumper doing 12sec quaters. Why a 3.8l anchor. There are other lighter more powerful options about. A 4.5l alloy Rover motor comes to mind and you would still have handling. Best of luck Welcome to the Madhouse!

A sheepskin insert for the exhaust How sexy is your rolla now?
