  6. Just got a phone call from the engine rebuilder. I guess it was good news. Seems as though the old fuel pump had longer non genuine bolts. When I removed it and put a plate over it I used the same bolts as my plate was 4mm thinner. Unfortunatly this 4mm was enough to hit the cam. I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT! :unsure: Atleast now we are getting a mild cam and larger valves STUPID,STUPID,STUPID. Oh well! hope somebody else can learn from this.

  11. I have up to four cars on the lawn and kanga's right, the missus hates it So the ea wagon is up for sale. And even though i'm having second thoughts the ke70 will be up for grabs once i pull the motor
  12. After the death of the 7k I've been looking for a 4or5k to put in temporary I saw a ke70 wagon listed on trading post, all it said was in good nick $200. Went and checked it out wednesday and WOW! One owner 140000 k's bit shabby outside no noticable rust, motor that clean you could eat off it. I handed him the $200, he let us keep the and use the last months rego up. So Craig drove it home. Guess what i haven't seen Craig or the car since. It must be O.K
  13. It has a 4.1 borg warner Where do i find the gaerbox I.D I think it has the van box in it. Seems like very close ratio gears. normally the load added by the hill will compensate for the rise in revs ie; load +revs = velocity

I was expecting to go in the wrong direction ie;3.9,3.7 Is the conversion of the Fseries as easy as an r31 Am i on the right track in thinking that with an excess of torque lowering the diff ratio is benaficial. It was hitting fifth gear at 50K's and was wanting to accelarate going uphills at just ordinary revs. Basically if you hit a steep hill at 80k it would accelerate when you raised the revs. (SLOTH'S HILLCLIMB SPECIAL)
  15. That was my origanal thought's Craig wants quick it doesn't have to be fast. Thats why i went the high torque option. I've gotta stop looking at the 4ag's and formula atlantics on line and get back on track. A good strong 7k,an R31 diff conversion i thought would make a good fun set up. Just going to take longer than planned. Bet that doesn't happen to eveyone else;sic
  16. Okay, so after playing with dyno i accept that a 7k is like an athlete with asthma. It now goes into the six month rebuild stage. If that is going to happen i will have to consider an inhaler for the asthmatic ( supercharge or turbo) But for the moment i'm just looking for a replacement 4k

  18. Use a wire wheel. A grinder will end up cuting the wrong places and give you more work. MIG is definatly easier but if you use te ARC get the thinnest satincrft rods you can get. Do a practice weld out of the car on a scrap of the material you are welding. start with the amps low and adjust accordingly. Like everything practice makes perfect. I'm a welder by trade and thats how i learnt

  20. O.K thoose figures were simalar to mine. At 83% thats not to bad. I guess i just have to work out where on the graph we want to fall. I suppose i should plan what diff ratio will suit it.
  21. I've been stuffing around and haven't pulled the motor yet It just basically locked up while parked. When i turn it by hand it jams at the opening of the 4th cylinder inlet valve. I just ran a set of figures i was given in dyno2000. Ithink they are wrong because i get. 155hp at 5500rpm to 6500 rpm 145 ft/lb at 5000 rpm. Does that sound right.
  22. Iam sure i read somewhere that 5k & 7k bore is same Extra capacity is gained by stroke and piston dish.
  23. I think the first thing is what do you want from your car. Do you wnnt something that looks cool. Something that goes hard. Or one that is economical and reliable. read through as many threads as you can. Look at the other rides on this site. Research is your best friend and money saver. One possibility is have your motor refreshed and add twin carbs. By spending a bit of time shopping around WReckers and engine rebuilders you could probably do this for your $1500. FIND THE WAY YOU WANT TO GO. If in doubt ask. This i have learnt from rollaclub as i am only half a step ahead of you and if i had done more research at the start i would have saved a shitload of time a bit of cash. Best of luck Bill
  24. thanks guys , this is the sort of shit i was looking for. hopoefully we can sort it out and put up a tough 7k thread. Just read o book on lotus cars and found that they gave up on thier 7k equivalent and went back to 1558cc and 1596cc Sound familiar (5k) Any more info is still appreciated.
