libbor Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Hi all, Has anyone here attempted a gearbox rebuild on a 5 speed from a ke70. If yes, was it hard and is there a step by step sticky here anywhere that i may be able to look at I just have noisy bearings. its whining in 1st, 2nd & third thanks Libbor Edited April 2, 2010 by libbor Quote
Evan G Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 yea ive tried but i have one detent ball left over (holdes the gear selector from popping outta gear) if you were just gonna replace the input shaft bearing , its easy but full rebuild, don't even try, i had 2 mechanics helping me and the service manual, and its in bits in the garage Quote
rob83ke70 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 gearboxes are not *that* hard to rebuild.... make sure you mark the orientation and location of EVERY component and be careful with everything. noisy in 1st 2nd and 3rd is probably an input shaft bearing. the k box is actually pretty simple although its been a long time since I've had one fully apart. take your time and be careful, and make sure you put selector hubs and sleeves back the right way and the right shift forks in the right place, but that goes with all gearbox rebuilds. Evan G Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 input shaft bearings are simple to do, remove bolts holding the input shaft in place remove oil pan now theres a huge circlip holding the bearing to the gearbox housing you have to compress it then the input housing will come off replace bearing and seal while your at it Quote
