motagraff Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Hi everyone. I'm new, just joined now. I own a suzuki swift gti, but I'm looking to get rid of it within the next coupole of months and purchase another vehicle. i really do enjoy small hot hatches though, so i was thinking about an ae82/ae92 corolla sx (or gti, as long as it has the 4AGE engine) i don't know much about these cars, i was just hoping you guys could tell me some stuff, common problems, tare weight of the vehicles, the power levels i should expect, handling, just general information. id really appreciate it everyone, thanks josh Quote

LittleRedSpirit Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 AE82 to AE92 is a pretty broad category, and a pretty long time line as well. Buy a car that has been a twincam 4age car its whole life. They frequently have better brakes installed, as well as a better gearbox and driveshafts. AE92 or 93 looks better than ae82 in my opinion. In the ae92 line you would be looking for an SX as they are all twincam, but all twincams are not created equal. The SX has the 4age std and the better bits. They are a little heavier than you might think. Around 1100kgs from memory. Most people if they want to drive real hard and have a little fun behind the wheel do up an older one like a ke70 or ae71 as they are rwd and you can still stuff a 4age in there with standard Toyota parts. Ok then. I was specifically looking at either an ae82 corolla gti (not the liftback seca, the hatchback, or an ae92/93 sx/gti. 1100 kgs??!! Damn thats heavy!! My swift only weighs 780, and ive taken a faor bit off too... Although the power to weight ratio would be similar. And i kinda like the way fwd handles. Its a bit wore predictable. Ive owned a ke55 rolla and a datsun1600, and like the way my fwd swift handles in comparison. What should i be expecting to pay for one of these? And do the 4ag engines have fairly long lifespan?
