the earlier KE55's (without rear swaybars - round headlights) had a heater hose coming out of the back of the head. The later KE55's (with square headlights) had a plate on the back of the head and this outlet then came from the thermostat housing

Not always, both my bro's ke55's (79/80 build, round headlights) have got the plate on the head, with the heater hose coming from the water pump (where on my 30 its the by-pass hose), to the thermostat housing....

Best bet would be to take the old one off, and compare before buying!

Also depends if the car still has the original motor. Many don't, and have had bits mixed and matched over the years.

During the 90's low kay Jap import k series motors were freely available (and cheap) and were a common option rather than rebuilding the original motor.

My ke15 and ke16 have different PCD's and nose center hole sizes on their water pumps.

Water pumps aren't really something that follow a set rule.

Alright, I've been doing my home work today. If I've fluffed any of this please post and I'll correct. I don't have the specs, but I think I've nailed the part numbers. From what I've seen, the letter will vary but the numbers seem to stay the same. So it could start WP, RWP, QCP. Depends on the brand.

Anywayz

757 KE1X 1966-70 Has only heater/bypass pipe coming off the rad outlet pipe

797 KE2X 1970-75 Has only heater/bypass pipe coming off the rad outlet pipe

835 KE3X KE50 1975 to 4/78 Has bypass coming off rad outlet pipe. Has 13mm pipe coming off left of pump for heater hose

859 KE3X KE5X KE7X 4/78 to 83 Has bypass coming off radout let pipe. Has 7mm pipe coming off left of pump

897 XE7X 83- same as 859 but allows use of viscous fan.

once I get some more confirmation and specs I'll do as philbey says and chuck it on. I may need help with that philbey. bigger hint, hint
