mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 ok, the '81-'82 starlet transmissions i've been using have been stamped "k51" or "K52" the genuine efi 4ke '83 trans is stamped "k61" the rpm drop between each gear on the k61 is identical in each gear incl. 5th; does this make it a trd trans? the rpm drop was the same in 1st and 2nd in the others, but 3rd-4th was WIDE and 5th was almost non-existant (300rpm?) all this was while running 4.10 rear gears and 195/70/13 tIres. so what do you think? blown 5k Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Aussies didnt get starlets dude, where is the"k51" "k52" "k61" etc stamped on the housing can't say i`ve ever seen it before, the way i read what your saying is the k61 is closer ratio....but it wont be a trd type ratio as trd ratios are way taller in 1st gear then stacked in close after that 2.7 or so 1st gear is one ratio 2.3 is another and 2 to 1 or there abouts was option one ratio first,.89 is 5th trd ratio .86 std. mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 22, 2005 Author Report Posted August 22, 2005 it's actually cast into the front bearing retainer, it's also listed in my chilton's repair manual, but i've never found anything on the k61 Quote
TRD ke70 Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 there was a TRD rally ratio made years ago for the k box but TRD stopped making it, from what i know it was about the mid 80's that they stopped making it. it's a really hard gear set to find, the one we have is the track ratio gearset with the big first gear. you could be lucky and have one of the rally sets. the only way to tell would be pull the pants off the box and count the teeth on the gears. blown 5k Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 I`ve got a couple of k50 boxs in bits at the moment and they have a K cast in to the front bearing retainer and have 56 stamped in so go figure on that one :y: i also went down to the toyota dealer (200 mtrs from my work)and harrased them on there cd rom for quite a while searching and crossreferencing the bottom cluster/layshaft and there wasnt any differences really apart from one that did specify different teeth numbers... but it also said it`d fit into a t37 box going off cross reference which is bollicks because they only had t series boxs (we checked) we also couldnt find any reference to k51 52 or 61 only listed as k50 so i`m floating the idea that the number stamped into the front housing doesnt actually refer to the transmission number. Also a while back i did some hunting on their cd rom (yes they love me ... not!)and if you want a K to T series transmission with a cable clutch here is the model you need to keep an eye out for ke35-msb with a 3k-b engine 74-08/76-06 part number for the bellhousing is 31111-12010. In regaurds to k series boxs like i said there were several different options of gear ratios 2.7 to 1 was the lowest i believe when i get some more time i`ll post up the gear ratios as i`ve pretty much got every trd/tosco manual known to man ahhh the joys of being an ex toyota dealer :D Quote
