hey i just bought myself a ke55 4 door sedan, overrated condition only 58,000kms with original engine, its an wikid car but id like a bit more power and was thinking of putting a 3sge in it. id just like to know if anyone has done this before and could tel me how hard it is, and how much it would cost if i was doing most the work myself. also what drivetrain modifications would i have to do and could i use the original 5spd gearbox

also will i need an engineers approval or anything like that

You really can be a prick Jamie. Don't get me wrong, I don't consider that to be a bad thing in any way.

As to your questions ke55sdn, I'm feeling generous, so listen up, and listen up good:

1. The KE55 is by no means a wikid (or even a wicked) car. It is a basic model, with low power and no real strengths aside from the inherent Toyota reliability and and large range of modification options.

2. If you want to know if a 3S-GE has been used in a KE55, search the Net for it. If it's been done, it's most probably out there somewhere to be found.

3. This modification would be hard. The engine you want to use is larger than the original motor, with far greater power, therefore requiring driveline upgrades to cope. And remember, hard to do = expensive to do.

4. If you had bothered to do the slightest bit of research you would have realised that the K50 gearbox will definitely NOT bolt up to the 3S-GE. In fact, even the T50 from the TE51 version will NOT bolt up to the 3S-GE. You will need a W5* series gearbox which WILL bolt up the 3S-GE. However, this transmission is far larger than either the K50 or the T50, and you will need to bash your floorpan about for it to fit.

5. As if you hadn't already proved it with your other queries, your last statement shows that you have absolutely no idea. We all had no idea at one point, it's just not all of us were so stupid in getting an idea. Of course you will need to get an engineer certify this vehicle. The car will be so different from it's original specifications that there is no way you could sneak it through rego without anyone noticing. There are many things you can do to a Corolla without needing certification/approval, but "dropping" a 3S-GE in isn't one of them.

Do some research and the FAQ before you next post.
