Hi all.

 

Just about to finish bolting a ke70 5 speed into my ke10. Everythinge worked well do far, love the shifter position and can wait to take the blown 5k for a spin... Until I tried my taishaft.

 

The output on the box is much bigger than the orig 1x 4speed setup so now I'm stuck. What have other people managed to come up with?

 

Was hoping to have it ready to drive this weekend but without a tailshaft it's a no go!

You got a jap diff?

 

If so get a gearbox yoke from a jap diffed ke3x (4/5 speed doesn't matter), and graft it onto the front of your existing tailshaft with a new uni joint (part No. K5-A517).

I'm pretty sure it would be a jap diff being a ke10, I have a ke11 here as well with the same diff in it. How do I tell the difference?

 

I'm guessing a jap diffed ke2x tailshaft will work the same as the 3x trick? I can get one quick smart if this is the case. Then it's hook up the accelerator cable and tailshaft and do some road tuning.

Jap = Front loader

Borgwarner (aussie) = Inspection plate at rear of diff housing.

 

Ke2x front yoke should work... If same family ie. Jap.

 

The ke1x gearboxes were the odd ones out with regards to output spline.

Will order a set of unis at lunch and get into it tonight. Pretty sure I can get hold of a jap tailshaft without any problems. The unis should hold up against the torque but I'm not sure the axles will... Lucky I have a spare diff!

I just counted the number of splines on my tailshaft (ie top of spline or bottom of spline, the number is 1 different) and then went to the wrecker, they had buckets of front uni's that they'd just gas axed out of the car.

 

I reckon there's a 19 spline and a 21 spline.

 

Then I took the tailshaft to a driveline joint and they rebuilt it and swapped the yoke over.

I've got a k40 front half tailshaft out of a KE70 in the shed you can have for the yoke if it will fit. No idea if it will. It's tucked away behind a 2TG so if interested, let me know and I'll pull it out and count the splines.
