GJM85 Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Just buy a 180sx... on a personal note I care little for cross breeds. But I guess I'm a real enthusiast.... :worship: Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 If you are willing/able to do most of the work yourself YES it is possible. However to make the car safe and relaible will cost several thousand more... I got my KE20 on the road with a Stock S5 13BT engine and g/box set-up for around $8G, this was with a microtech comp, FMIC, exhaust and few other bits and peices. It was a fun and QUICK car but did not handle or brake very well and was pretty unsafe. Stock diff didnt last long either with over 4 times the stock power figure. It the extras like diff, brakes, suspension where you will find yourself over budget. Quote
Triz Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 A mate of mine here in chch just put a ca18det into his ke70. Cost him 12grand but he did absolutly nothing just dropped car off paid and picked it up. Had a hilux diff before it went in but had an lsd center added, brakes upgraded, mounts and so on and so on. For that 12 it was also completly certed. With 10grand it can be done with shopping around workshops. There was a full ca18de set up on trade me last week come with engine, engine mounts, gearbox, loom, computer the lot for $600. I know its not turbo but would be a good starting point in my opion. Why not go for a 4age turbo I know its been done a million times before but because of that there is unlimited info on the conversion and theres a few set ups on trade me for under 2grand complete. Just a thought. Or on the other hand you could buy a car already done for that if you didnt want the work or headache and that way you know exactly what the end product will cost you. Sorry if I sound like I'm going on but just trying to help out. Thanks for your info. its very helpful! yeah i was thinking of 4age turbo but its been done alot! i want something different. ca18det isnt Rare but is still different to the common 4age conversions. That 12 grand is a good indication, as id do some of the work myself. So i think 10g would be around just enough. I could buy a fully completed car but i like the satisfaction of building a car from ground up. Quote
dopedx Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Haha your the same as me and id say alot of other car enthusiasts. Iv had the chance in the past to buy several cars for a fraction of the cost it was to build mine but hey at the end of it you learn new skills and you get to enjoy your own hard work. The best advice I had a few years back was to listen hard and ask heaps of questions itll save you ALOT and is free. Theres heaps of ca and sr conversions on here and other forums around the world full of helpful information all that will save you money when you come to buy parts as you wont have to do things twice or three times and you can figure out how to do stuff yourself. Good luck with the conversion :y: Quote
SLW42 Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 If you can weld then you will have the hardest part of the conversion covered. I was in the middle of this conversion into my ke70 and it has cost me $10, and that was just buying engine mounts that didn't work anyway, you just have to find cheap bits and pieces, the only problem sometimes with said bits and pieces is there is usually a reason people are seliing them cheap!! Also make sure you can find a car that doesn't need a bazillion dollars work done to the body so that it's straight again  Quote
SUS-WGN Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I know a bloke that put a 2JZ in a R31 skyline, obtained rego, and ran 10 sec. quarters.... all for 10k.... everything, but it depends on how much work you do yourself, the more you do, the cheaper the build cost'll be. Quote
BUZ440 Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Bro in response to your original question, I will answer 'yes' it is possible Quote
