April 28, 201115 yr comment_520117 Ok I sold a 5 speed box for a KE70 to a fellow member on here who is upgrading from a 4 speed. He says that when his mechanic went to change the boxes over the bolt holes on the 5 speed didn't match up at all places on the motor and the starter motor didn't line up. Most bolt holes line up and it the shaft went into the motor so it has to be a KE70 5 speed. It has the shifter in the right position also. I am thinking that perhaps there is a difference in the sandwich plate that you use betweeen the 4 and 5 speed?? Has anyone else encountered this issue and what was the solution? Report

April 28, 201115 yr Author comment_520124 4k in a ke70 I can't see how it doesn't work to be honest but I wasn't there to see it with my own eyes Report
April 29, 201115 yr comment_520469 The only other way i can see it not fitting is if the motor has been up-righted. Which would also mean the g'box x-member would need to be fixed or something so that it can be angled over as well for the box to fit to the motor. Sandwich plates - about the only real difference is the one that fits between the auto and motor has an inspection hole. At least that's what i've noticed with the ones i have here. I think i'd be asking to see it, cause i don't believe it. Report

May 4, 201115 yr Author comment_521632 I compared both gearboxes side by side and the bellhousing bolt pattern was different so I swapped it. Upon thinking about this further I suspect that I have an early K series box front half, combined with a KE70 shifter extension housing. Why someone would do that is beyond me  Report
May 4, 201115 yr comment_521652 The earlier ones have slightly different ratios? Not really worth swapping though Report
