Mitch-12 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 i have my stock 4k and i checked the timing cause i have just put a new HG on it and thought i better check it was blown bad... anyway ive been racing it and never check so it had 29degrees at idle with vac advance off so i made that 10degrees so i know why it blew haha poor motor so with 10deg at idle it ends up with 44deg total that sounds alot to me... or is that just what they have reason for 10 at idle instead of 8 is avgas :) Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 and is the mark on the crank pulley tdc or 8deg btdc? Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 TDC as far as I know- The degrees are on the cam cover. So it starts at 8deg idle stock and runs to a max of 36deg I think it is. You must have been pulling 55 to 60deg advance over 3000rpm! One thing I did find while playing around with advance curves is that the springs are already advancing at idle. If the dizzy can give 36deg max and you run a really light spring, when you set the 8deg at 1000rpm idle the springs might already be at half thair full travel, so they can only add another 18deg. Time to add some white marks every 5deg and draw up an advance curve.... Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 i piston stopped it it is tdc if the dizzy is stock do they all have 34 deg advance with vac off? Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 at 4000rpm it has 44deg and at idle it has 10deg so 34deg adv in the dizzy Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 I'm not sure Mitch. What dizzy are you using? Unfortunately I haven't got my computer running, the new ram I bought screwed it up, so I can't look up all the files on there. I thought they maxed at 36deg or so with 8deg advance. I'll look up my pile of scrap paper... Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 it is a stock 4k points dizzy with a msd 6al maybe something is happening through the 6al... Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 5, 2011 Author Report Posted June 5, 2011 taz you rekon it's the 6al or 44deg is right? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 taz you rekon it's the 6al or 44deg is right? Nah 44 sounds about right. 6al doesn't/can't add timing, only punch. Quote
Mitch-12 Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 i thought 44 would of been too much only reason i suspected the 6al is cause it is a procomp one chineze lol Quote
