Hi guys,

 

Timing chain is fubar needs replaced on my FIL's 5k.

He works for Toyota and found that he could get 3k and 4k parts but 5k weren't available?!

 

since deciphered/assumed that 5ks are only jap imports?

 

3k and 4k have different tensioners - does anyone know if either will work on the 5k engine?

 

i would assume that the 5k will use a 4k chain and tensioner, but i'm just looking for clarification.

 

serious noob question, but hey, that what you guys are for!

Yes they will line up. I suggest going to dual timing chains off a 3k and some 4k's ( before 82) as they are a little stronger but you will need to change the gear they sit on but they are cheap.

5K's are not only Jap imports. They came in Lite ace vans and some forklifts too i believe. Off shelf parts are available. I bought a double row timing chain kit for my 5k.
