I was wondering if it is possible to just install a shift light without a tacho. This is just because i don't think a modern tacho will suit the ke20 very well, and i could easily hide the shift light itself...

you can get adjustable shift lights a tach sig goes in tell it how many revs you want it to come on and how many cyl the car is
