  1. Thanks heaps for your time and reply mate, I am taking it do my best mates old man, who is very wise in regards to carbies etc. And Ill get all the above menchioned checked... Both the carbie tuner and mates old man think that the timing is just off which would obviously cause it to run not to the best of their abilities... Once again thanks heaps and ill keep you posted. Cheers Tom
  2. coln72, its hard to tell without having a tacho, i am going to guess around 2000-3000rpm mark.
  3. I havent changed anything in the dizzy accept for points, but i doubt changing that would do any difference. What would you suggest. I havent noticed anything that could be a 'flatspot' it just bogs down at low revs until they pick up.
  4. Ah yeah, taking off it is very sluggish and slowly picks up, and when the revs rise it gets going, but when changing gear and the revs drop again it does the same thing throughout that particular gear.
  5. Hey, I seem to be having issues with my newly installed 3k-b carbies. I have had them tuned to the best of their abilities but it seems like something is not quite right. Speaking to the tuner he says that it is possible that the distributor could do with an advancement on its placement. Could this be the issue? The engine and carbies run well in high revs but down low i get overtaken by joggers :bash: Any tips would be great. Thanks
  6. Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciate it. Ill keep you posted.
  7. Hey, was driving up the expressway today and heard a decent size bang! noticed the temp gauge increasing a little so i pulled over and found more coolant in the engine bay than the radiator, Thought at first it was a head gasket but then the raa spotted a hole on the back of the head (engine bay side)... Is the usually welsh plugs there, or have i just destroyed my head? Thanks, Tom
  8. yeah awesome thanks mate, yeah they arnt on the car yet, but i can see a hose outlet thing there on the manifold, haha these are all things i need to know... haha
  9. After a quick search I could not find anything that I was after.... Basically, I have not had anything to do with dual carbies, so what needs to be do... Eg fuel lines anything else and how do I go about this... Sorry for such a rookie question but I don't really want to mess this up... Thanks heaps Tom
  10. Yo, when removing my engine stupidly (rookie mistake) totally forgot about the alternator and when hoisting it out, i stripped all the wires off of the plugs going into the alternator, just wondering if there is a diagram or picture, to show which wires go where... Thanks Tom
  11. Been a little slack on the pics so here they are...
  12. Hey, went to my mechanic today who is rebuilding and 'milding' my 3k up.... It seems that he has struck a problem about a month ago that still hasnt been resolved. I am told that he is in need of longer push rods to compensate for the cam and valve springs... Would this make sense? Has this happened to anyone? and what did you use/do the fix it? Any help would be great. Thanks heaps Tom
  13. Alright, went round the mechanics this arvo, and he tells me that the broken linkage on the 3k-b carbs will be ready to pick up tomorrow, but still no time of finish for the engine. Apparently hes having troubles with push rod lengths, because of the cam and valve springs. Has anyone had this issue and if so what did you do to overcome it? This has been a known issue for about a month and no progress... Getting sick of it! Cheers Tom
  14. Still waiting on the engine... This is killing me :bash:
  15. Thanks very much, Ill have a sus into the commodore dbr11k, Ill probably just take it to an auto electrician. Cheers Tom
  16. Hey guys, just in the middle of putting my new engine in my freshly painted engine bay. I have previously noticed that the stock 3k alternator struggles to power and keep charged a sub and amp. And after a quick search I couldn't find anything on differences and modifications needed to install a later model 4k (ke70) alternator.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tom
  17. Today I had the rust cut out and replaced by Ryan (SLO-030) he did a sweet job, and the engine bay has now been painted and I am very happy with the results. Tomorrow the seat belts will be put in and I get to pick up the carbies so hopefully I can make a start at putting the kit through them. I am anxiously waiting for the call from the mechanic to tell me to pick up my engine. So until then I guess all i can do is wait. Picks to come. Tom
  18. HAHHA :laff: it was sooo sketchy man, as soon as the engine got off the mounts the whole pergola creaked, hence the makeshift support beam in picco #2
  19. A bit has happened in the past week, engine has been taken out, me and a few mates have degreased, sanded, primed, sanded, vacuumed out sanded the engine bay at it is finally ready to paint. Upon taken the battery tray out, i was pleasantly surprised to see a decent sized whole where there should be metal. Mate is coming round sunday to patch that up and all should be good! My engine is still at the work shop, i delivered some goodies which included new points, plugs and leads for him to set up. Should be getting that back within the week. Picking up some new/old doors which will replace the dented/creased old ones. I did decided to snatch the 3k-b twin carbs and today picked up 2 carby kits because i have been told that thhey had been sitting in a shed for the past 15 or so years :glare: Also ordered some new seat belts and thats about it so far :) Pictures, should be in order. Enjoy!
  20. Took the engine and gear box last night, and has to remove the tail shaft today to transport it easily.... I was under the impression that they should be either caps full of bearings or bearings between the tail shaft and diff? Looking in the end of the tail shaft there is like a dome (is this a cap?) Cheers Tom
  21. News just in...... Engines out, was kinda freaking, seeings though it was my first time and attempt... Pics to come.
  22. HAHA... you bugga!! yeah they are in good condition and may need a carby kit because they have been sitting for a while.... but yeah, Its a tough one...
  23. Tonight, I am taking the old worn 3k out ready for the fresh 3k tomorrow morning... The guy has complete set of 3k-b carbys for 500-600 should I get it? I know its up to me, but is that a good price? Pictures to come.. Cheers Tom
