Did you clean the tank out?

That is normal, the fuel goes in, through the filter, around the air bubble and out without any trouble.   I don't thnk so, if anything is blocking it the chances are it is rust scale.   Is there

seems the fuel filter is still only getting half full

is there anything I can add to the fuel that will maybe break down or remove whatever has built up

Is there a return line in the system to take fuel that the carb doesn't need back to the tank?? ..and is the tank vented through the charcoal filter or has it been hacked so now it is sucking against a vacuum??

I never ended up dropping the tank - I was hoping that blowing the lines back would be enough to start with

I needed to get the car back on the road asap, as its currently the only car I have running!

my mechanic mate reckons that the fuel filter should always be full (or as close to)

there was a return line from the old mechanical pump, but it kept leaking fuel with the new electric pump, so I just blocked off the return line with a bolt in the end. the tank is still vented through a charcoal filter

I know the electric fuel pump is mean to be noisy, but just don't want it to blow up and me get stranded on the side of the road in peak hour :glare:
