  4. I never ended up dropping the tank - I was hoping that blowing the lines back would be enough to start with I needed to get the car back on the road asap, as its currently the only car I have running! my mechanic mate reckons that the fuel filter should always be full (or as close to) there was a return line from the old mechanical pump, but it kept leaking fuel with the new electric pump, so I just blocked off the return line with a bolt in the end. the tank is still vented through a charcoal filter I know the electric fuel pump is mean to be noisy, but just don't want it to blow up and me get stranded on the side of the road in peak hour :glare:
  5. a week later and the little 4K is still driving, hasn't stalled or hesitated. however, from time to time, the fuel pump will get really noisy and knock away - quite audible, even over the sound of peak hour traffic. I popped the hood when I got to work, and seems the fuel filter is still only getting half full. yet getting enough fuel to the carby to keep it running thankfully it indicates that there must still be a restriction getting fuel from the fuel tank, even though I blew back the lines with the air compressor Whats the next step ?? should I try blowing back the lines again? or maybe theres something mechanically wrong in the fuel tank ? is there anything I can add to the fuel that will maybe break down or remove whatever has built up and causing the blockage/restriction ? Damo
  6. this is getting rediculous!! :blinks: why don't people want to keep this car ?? maybe the 4K powahz is not enough for the way the car actually looks

yup, the one with the MA61 mags is the one I'm thinking of. Looks neat :) I live in Maddo - explains why I always see the car. I'll have to give her / you a wave next time on the road Damo

    Spotted!

no. I remember the people in the Falcon next to me in that picture kept staring at me :glare: didn't see the RA60 though. I see a fairly tidy yellow RA60 fairly regularly around the Maddington/Kenwick area though - is that the one?

    Spotted!

well spotted!... me on the way to Carousel  its a 1983 GA61 Toyota Supra XX import from Japan. JDM MkII Supra's did not come with flares or rear wing, this was added to the USA and Aussie version Celica Supra from late 83 to early 86 models. The rear bumper and tail lights are also factory JDM spec. I bought the car about 12 years ago with 83,000kms on it. just today it ticked over 144,000kms. originally running a 1GGE motor, it now has a 7MGTE motor out of MA70 Supra Turbo A. most of the time it sits in my garage and occassionally gets driven to the odd Toyota meet or car cruise. but its an ongoing project so always something I want to fix or modify on it! haha here's a link to the new thread on the new Toymods forums: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/forum-members-rides/16668-%5Btrd-83%5D-ga61-supra-now-7mgte-29.html Damo
  11. yeah I was thinking I might wire in a relay. Don't worry, I wasn't gonna wire it directly from the battery :no2: wiring it directly to the battery to get a constant 12v was just for diagnostic purposes Damo
  12. Well problem after problem - I THINK has been resolved... but I'm not counting my chickens just yet until I get a few days worth of reliable driving. Finally had someone with some mechanical knowledge look under the hood (YAY for mechanic friends!) several problems found while going through the engine bay: 1. (probably the major one) still not getting enough fuel! despite installing an electric fuel pump, I wired it up all professionally to the ignition, the pump wasn't getting enough power and hence, engine/carby not getting enough fuel. to test this, connected positive straight to the battery and the fuel pump came to life clunking and pumping away a lot louder. suction and fuel delivery are now good. 2. spark from coil was also a problem. swapped over with a spare coil, but to no avail. turned out that the wire from the condensor and the wire to the points were old and oily and generally not getting a good connection/earth. that was all cleaned up with some oil & grease remover and put back together. 3. also turns out when I bought the new dizzy cap I put it on 180deg the wrong way, so it wasn't seated properly. FAIL. turned that around so the dizzy cap had a nice tight seal again and the rotor can make nice clean connections. took a bit of trouble shooting, but seems to have got it running good now at least at idle and with a bit of revvs. Havent had a chance to take it for a test lap just yet. theres a bit of blockage is the carby jets which can sometimes cause a very fine miss... but not really enough to worry about at the moment. now to tidy it all up and put the car back together for a test drive!! Damo
  13. Unfortunately you have seen the level of my expertise with everything I have tried. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm not confident to pull apart the carby. If I can find another carby to simply swap over though, I might try that.
  14. hey mate, your problem sounds a lot like my problems!! and I've still yet to pin point the fix its friggin frustrating!! :bash: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/56069-lack-of-power-ke70-4k-motor/ I'll keep an eye on your thread and you can keep an eye on mine in case it turns out being the same problem! Damo
  15. Corolla has been sitting for a while - but its at the stage now that I NEED it running!!.. I even purchased a compressor for the above suggestions. Also, to eliminate mechanical fuel pump problems all together, I bought a universal electric fuel pump for carby cars. blown back fuel line with compressor fitted new fuel filter fitted new electric fuel pump upgraded to 8mm fuel hose problem still exists!! car still misses/hesitates - and it just stalls and dies after about 20sec of idling  its like I did nothing at all, but just spent all my cash next suggestions please!! need to get this sorted asap!! :( cheers Damo
  16. might be just me then... but I think that Rolla looks cool! hahaha well, maybe not the wheels, but the kit looks good
  17. yeah, heard it was a hassle to fit 17's on these cars :hmm: planning on putting them back on again when its done, or gonna shop around for some other wheels?
  18. good on ya mate - hope you see this car through to the end. the satisfaction you will have along with the motivation behind this project - I'm sure it will get done. *subscribes for updates and for moral support* Damo
  19. woah!... this thing must punt along alright!! nice work with the custom conversion! :blinks: Damo
  20. hey mate... good progress on the car in a short period of time!.. just curiously wondering what size tyres are you running on the 17's ? looks pretty low profile
  21. this is not a completely daff question - I was thinking of putting a set of 17's on a AE92 will these wheels be too big? anyone got pics of 17's on AE92 Corolla? Also wondering what size tyres I'd have to run if the wheels are 17x7 for example ? thanks Damo
  22. hey man... in case you miss your car... http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-KE70-JDM-mods-W0QQAdIdZ352208408 can't believe its back up for sale already :blinks: Damo
  23. voted fo sho!... awesome effort dood! shame I didnt get to see it in the flesh though :( Damo
  24. Thanks Neil you are the second or third person to suggest blowing compressed air through the fuel system. its next on my list to try. Will let you all know how I go with that Damo
