Raven is on the money.... All comes down to the guy behind the console. A good engineer should be able to make a shit pa sound reasonably good.

And to answer your question dave that's why the band doesn't dictate to the foh guy how his mix should sound.... They bark at the monitor guy instead! Lol

 

Btw, I work for a production company with a shed full of "brown boxes" if you know what I mean.
