coupedcorolla Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I'm just wondering where to get parts for my ke55 in brisbane havent been here long. also i have a 4k with a auto and need a manual instead have been told around $1800 dollars to get this done does any one know of any places that will do it cheaper or any where that will do a conversion to it any help would be great Quote
Dan Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Most cities have exchange motor services, where they will take your buggered engine and replace it with a second hand, albiet running motor. I know of a place in Perth that does it for 350 so I guess that there wouldnt be all that much difference in a different city. However I suggest that you do it yourself with another 4k or perhaps 5k; K's are reasonably easy motors to pull out... Welcome to Rollaclub by the way! Quote
love ke70 Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 ok one step back...your engine is all fine? yes? and u have a shitty 2 (maybe 3?) speed auto, that is a direct affiliation with the devil. and u want to pull this P.o.s off and stick a manual box in there? yes? ok, easy, what you need: a k50 some oil and implements to remove the afore mentioned affiliation with the devil then grab your k50, whack her into place, torque her up and fill her up, away u go, 5 speed 4k powered ke55 :( cheers p.s. i have a spare k50, duno what its worth, offers? its perfect condition from what i could tell driving it :) Quote
coupedcorolla Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 where do i get it done for three hundred cause i found a couple places that would do it ranging from 1500-1800 and i know this is a ripoff but i havent done a conversion like this before only straight swaps and as of yet don't have the tools right now to do this Quote

love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 cable clutch all gearboxes have clutches :) I'm confuzzled Quote
beerhead Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 For that price I'd be heading out and buying a rust bucket for the project. Cost you $200 tops. Then you have everything. Only thing is, everyone likes the shifter position in the KE70 box's, but the tail shafts are different. Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 tail shafts are different between what? auto and manual or ke55 and ke70? Quote

NO WAY More like $300 including gearbox and labour and clutch parts And yeah, I got quoted $1200 to change auto to manual....remember I am in the middle of changing Jero's right now?? The pedal box's are a bastard to do, but you DO NOT need to take the dash out. You would need a manual donor car to do this job cheaply, if you can find a blown up/rusted out manual for cheap or free....then it is definately worth doing, especially if your car has rego etc... You need to pull the auto out, obviously, and take the flex plate/flywheel off, pull the manual out of the donor car, take the flywheel and clutch off, put these on the auto car, then pull the auto's pedal box out, and put the manual one in, then run the clutch cable, slot the manual in the auto car, use the manual tailshaft from your donor car, as the auto one is different, then you are basically ready to go. You do however have to pull the instrument cluster out, and drop the steering column to get the pedal box's out. And yes...it's a bastard of a job, after I finish Jero's this will be the 3rd time I have done it. And if it's a KE55, the gearbox crossmember mounts wont line up, either make a cross member, or chisel the mounts off, and weld them back on in the right place. Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) He could do that, then not be able to change gears, since he has no pedal, or clutch, or cable. yeah i remembered that this morning as i was thinking about it, i have spare cable, clutch and pedal box aswell sounds like you know what ur doing rolla boy, write a tutorial :( :) Edited December 30, 2005 by love ke70 Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Clearly that would require effort. And that is something I am not prepared to put in, in this heat :) Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 hot down there aswell aye bloody hot up here, heat haze off the grass :) i reckon u should do it, take ur mind off the heat and add some more quality to your quantity :( Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 $1800 to swap from auto to manual? NO WAY More like $300 including gearbox and labour and clutch parts Also, the place I rang, cut the quote up for me, $500 to pull one gearbox out, and put one in. A further $300 to pull the second gearbox out. So that is $800 JUST for the gearbox removal and fit up. Let alone clutch, oil, clutch cable, pedals, beer to stock the beer fridge at the mechanics shop, etc :) Quote
love ke70 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 thats ridiculous, god i hate mechanics Quote
