speed racer Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I'm thinking about purchasing this 81' Corolla http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/cto/2813421886.html here in the States and need some expert advice! I found your site on a internet search and you guys seem to be very knowledgeable. I have lots of previous experience with old Datsuns (several 240Z's and a 510), some Mazda's (1st gen RX7 and a rwd GLC with a 12a) and lastly was a 2nd gen NA MR. I'm looking for a daily driver and came across this 81" for sale. I'm traveling to Atlanta in about a week to look at cars and this one's on my list. What should I look out for? What are usual cost and availability of suspension components such as tie rod ends, ball joints as owner said all those parts were original. Same goes for interior components. How much of an upgrade is the motor he has installed and what are some of the more common engine upgrade/swaps? That's enough for now. Thanks in advance for any advice! Quote
altezzaclub Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Steering wheel is on the wrong side... :laff: Look out for rust, especially low in the body. The 3T is a fine conversion, take it for a drive and see what you think. The price of gas in the USA is dirt cheap, so the carbs don't matter, but are there air filters for them?? A 4AGE would be the only option. Its probably worth the same money over here. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 It a corolla, like every country I'm assuming they were popular there, so parts should never really be an issue. If it is, you have us. Quote
