So a month ago i had a new clutch installed into my AE92 corolla. The car has been running fine since then but it has always 'stuck' in third gear when i tried to shift gears (it wouldn't come out unless force was applied or several light attempts). This didn't bother me too much but today it started making a whining noise while driving in third gear so I avoided third gear to save myself from that problem.

 

Me being me, instead of not driving for the weekend and taking it to my mechanic on monday, i have been driving around all night and now every gear makes the same noise and its starting to get real rough changing gears. it is a struggle to get into reverse and 1st gear.

 

The noise is best described as a V8 supercar accelerating. that whining noise (but sadly without the V8 power).

 

so my question is, gear box oil? replace the gear box? some post online suggested the 'clutch release bearing'

 

I have no idea, and would like to buy a 2nd hand gearbox from the wreckers ASAP (or anyone that has a 5 speed gear box with low kms for a ae92 fuel injected 16 valve), or a answer so i know its just as easy as putting gearbox oil into it.

Is the noise always there or does it go away with the pedal depressed?

the noise is there when accelerating and when not accelerating ONLY when then clutch is connected. when i push the clutch, the noise dissapears

turns out the gearbox had 0 oil. the drain bolt had fallen out so it was driven to bone dry :| all sweet now though!!
