Well, I changed my K50 today, came across some wierd things today when I put it in. For starters I'll give you a bit of history about where the gearbox came from. I bought it off a guy that had it in a KE70, but he had a blueprinted 5K in it with sidedrafts on it. Catch was, he made his own upright kit for it. I assumed there were no other modifications to the gearbox.

The first thing I noticed was when I went to use my old clutch fork with this gearbox. The clutch fork was rubbing against the top of the hole the clutch fork goes though, Then I realised this may have been why the clutch fork he had was not straight like my old clutch fork (Matt has a comparative picture, I'll upload it later). Then when I looked inside the bellhousing, it actually looks like the internals of the gearbox had been spun a little too. In the end I decided to just use the clutch fork that came with the gearbox and it lined up where it should have..

Then once I got the gearbox back in, I took it for a spin and noticed something quite different. 2nd was going to 80km/hr and 3rd was going to 140km/hr. As fun as it seemed that I was doing 20km/hr extra each gear according to the speedo, I know my car is gutless and couldn't do that if it tried. Changed the speedo gear in the box over and its back to normal now.

Anyone know if it is possible to spin the K50 internals for uprighting or am I just tripping out? Also, does anyone have an Idea what sort of ratio the other speed drive would have been for?

it depends where that k50 originated from, as the speedo gears in some k50 are different to others.

coz i pulled mine out and gave it to...him down in tassie, forgoten his nickname on here, but anyway, printed on mine was oh shit, ill find the thread, i can't remember

hmm, falken ke30 is his name on here,

and yeah the one out of his k50 had 5x19 stamped on it, and mine from the ke70 had 6x20

so it could have been somethin as simple as that maybe?

hope that helps, might do slightly, the rest i have no idea

this gearbox didn't happen to come from chris kelly???

yellow Ke70 with uprite and side draughts. has now returned to NZ???

if so the problem was, it was a smooth case k50 box and it came out of a starlet which the clutch fork has a bend in it, the speedo was out because the diff ratio is a 3.9 (jap diff) not for a B/W diff as Aus got.

know this car and the owner well.

hope that clears up a few things.

Yeah, I got in touch with him and he told me that he had to bend the clutch fork because the apparent genuine cable he got was a tad shorter than usual. Also he was driving around with his speedo out for years..
