just brought my first corolla which is a 69 ke11 with a 5k in it

its running pretty rough and was just wondering who around my local area would be able to give it bit of a tune

its running standard carby at the moment and should run alot better than what it does, i know most mechanics would be able to do it but just thought id chuck it out there and see who you rolla boys would reccomend

I'm located in penrith, ive had plenty of dattos before, (a14 turbo 1200 ute, ca18det 1200 sedan, ca18det 1200 ute, ca18det 120y wagon, + a few stock datos but I'm new to the corollas, any help appreciated

cheers

What sort of rough?

The carb tune only affects the idle mixture & idle speed, so if its a tuneable problem its more likely in the electrics.. Does it have the electronic dizzy??

Plugs look OK? Compressions all OK?

Same as a Datsun really, that's also what I owned for many years. Still got a 510 awaiting resto finish.

So no points to worry about.. No tappets either with the hydraulics.

Check the plugs and compressions and see what they are like. If it runs badly in certain circumstances, then get it running poorly and immediately flick it into neutral and turn it off. Then check the plugs on the side of the road and see if it is leaning out or flooding at some point.

If it was playing up at idle and getting off the line it could be the carb idle circuit, but the rest is pretty bullet-proof.

thanks mate, I'm going to do a full service on it once i get a day off , going to do plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor button, oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, then hopefully that knocks a few things out

its got an aftermarket electric fuel pump, does it need a reg to regulate the pressure even its a low volume pump

if you hold your foot just on the accell pedel it coughs and farts and runs like shit , then if you put your foot down it runs fine, also if you put the clutch in , without letting the revs die right down it stalls,

i brought a 32/36 weber for it should i bother stuffing around with the standard carb or just bite the bullet and throw the weber on

will the weber be alright as it will be my daily once i sell my ute

Throw the Weber on and get it sorted before you sell the ute! They're the number one choice on here for a cheap replacement and a big improvement over stock. There was a post a few weeks back about jetting them to start with.

I bought an adjustable reg for about $50 to cut the stock fuel pump back to a couple of psi for the SUs. It seems to work fine.

I'm playing with a reg at the moment.

Any less than 4psi and it won't run. But seems to be happy at 5psi, although I'm yet to drive it.

Do you have one of those little rectangular pumps?

Yeah mate its a little gold one in the engine bay , not the normal one I see or use, so I should spend the extra cash and time and try and sort the weber out , I figured it would be better but was also considering about ditching the electric pump and trying to rum the mech one again
