ke30tay Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Hi guys I'm having trouble with my head lights it all started when a bear wire going from the battrey to a relay arked out and melted the relay, i replaced it and the wire and no i have no headlights, I'm tries checking all the grounds in the engine bay and ive changed the stalk and tail realay and same problem, i don't even think the headlights have any thing to do with the realy that melted but it seems it does, can anyone give me any info about this shit i don't have money for a auto sparky Quote
rian Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Things to check: -Headlight fuses, I don't know if they are in the engine bay or under the dash on a KE30? -Fusible links that come off the positive battery terminal, just make sure they aren't broken or melted. -Make sure your headlights aren't blown. ke30tay Posted September 16, 2012 Author Report Posted September 16, 2012 Headlights aren't blown and I can only find one fusesble link near the voltage regulater none of the fueses are blowen under the dash Quote
rian Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) Buy a multimeter or test light and track down the issue. Start off by testing for power at the headlight fuse, if there is no power at the fuse you know there is a prolem in the wiring before the fuse. Then test for power at the headlight switch, then power at the relay, then at the lights etc. Just to clarify, the headlights stopped working at the time you replaced the "bear" (lol grrrr) wire and melted relay? And not at the time that the bare wire and relay actually burnt out? If the issue first began when you started replacing stuff then it's most likely you have stuffed something up, try going back over everything and making sure it's all wired up correctly. Goodluck! altezzaclub Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Do you have a wiring diagram?? Does the power go from the battery to the switch to the headlight bulb to earth, or from the battery to the headlight bulb to the switch to earth? Quote
ke30tay Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 They stopped working when the relay fried , the way I've been using my headlights is I've just striped back a bit of wire for the headlights on the relay and just conect it to my battery, I still get high low beam but I can't turn the lights off from the switch, also another strange thing is that when ever hi beam is clicked on or off the dash lights go out and on, and u can hear the relay clicking, it didn't do this with the other stalk so I'm just assuming its a problem with that but still, would anyone know the coulor of the wire that's headlights to supper switch I can't find my diagrams Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 This is my KE70 stuff, which should be pretty similar. Follow the diagram around checking for power with a multimeter and if you can't solve it then take it into an electrician. Now would be the time to completely rewire the system so the power does not earth through the dipswitch and it uses relays instead. The headlights are a lot brighter that way, the stock system is crap. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/42407-the-girls-ke70/ Quote
ke30tay Posted October 20, 2012 Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 Got it working by sheer luck, turns out one of the wires from the tail relay sends power back to the dipper for the head lights or some shit... so i just changed the wire i had from the head light cable to the thick red cable coming out of the tail relay and hey presto my headlights work! thanks for the help guys Quote
