Help Busted Speedo

was running at 80 kph and shifted to 5th gear and the speedo suddenly wasn't moving. what could be the reason? btw i have a ke35 with a 4k engine

Chewed out speedo drive gear. They're only nylon and the metal worm will happily destroy them (or could just be worn down enough).

would this be costly time wise and money wise?

Nope. 10 minutes, one socket size and maybe some multigrips.

Not the same gearbox but it's the same location and setup. Basically unscrew the speedo cable, undo the bolt and you should be able to pull the carrier out. The carrier will have the little nylon gear in it and you should be able to see fairly easily if its buggered.

If you do replace it, you need to ensure you get one with the same number of teeth.

 

Other possibilities include a broken or detached from geearbox speedo cable (remove and check), or the cable has fallen out the back of the speedo (unlikely)

will try to look at it or bring it to a shop. btw i'm having problems with my car. taking to long to start it. and when it runs it stutters then runs smoothly and then when i go to a full stop for a red light it stutter again then runs smoothly. do i have to correct the timing or just set the points?

btw it idles smoothly

solved the stuttering part. now will look into the speedo part.
