Dyzza Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 hey guys ... well the dream run on the stock carby is over ... the float is getting stuck at the top (i think) so the carby is flooding ... Any possible reason for this ? i have pulled the needle and seat out and cleaned them up, they look in immaculate condition... Where the fuel line plugs onto the carby, just inside the 'tube' where it bends down at a 45 degree angle, there is a sort of 'filter' i guess you'd call it ... well this one was stuffed and wouldn't let any fuel into the motor when i first put the carby on, so i took it out ... My question - what is that thing ? Could that be the source of my problems? i thought it might have just been a small filter, but I'm thinking it has more importance. ... Cheers for your help guys ... Quote
Raven Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 That would be the seat for the needle if its what i think you're talking about and yes, its very important. Speaking of carby problems, i don't know if your car is doing this itself but.... I was working on my mate's KE38 wagon today. Previous owner had slapped a 3K in it and the carby was leaking, and the car wouldnt idle at all (getting wayyyyyyyy too much fuel (so i changed it from the 4K carby it was running to a 3K carby to match the engine. Now, my problem is, it's still not idling at all but if you hold the accelerator down and keep the revs up, its fine. It also sounds like its running on 3 cylinders when its trying to idle and with a good carby now on the motor, its still doing the same thing....too much fuel. Any ideas, anyone? Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 No Nick, you are just getting old :) Quote

Dyzza Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 alrighty .... well ive put in a new 'whatever that part was ... looked like a cylinder about 15mm long with fine mesh surrounding it' in ... took the car for a drive. seemed fine, a bit less power actually (maybe coz not as much fuel is getting into the motor), but yeah ... i'll see how it goes! Raven Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 Does it idle properly now? Cos i have another carby on the car and its doing the same thing still. Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 I love the standard carbies...I pulled the SC off the KE30 yesterday.....hunted around in the garage til I found a standard carby laying on the floor, and bolted it on....BOOM fires into life and idles from dead cold...I reckon they rule :) Quote
Dyzza Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 Does it idle properly now? Cos i have another carby on the car and its doing the same thing still. nah it doesn't idle properly. it will sit around 900 or 1000rpm (highest i can go without stalling) then after 20 odd seconds it will drop down and die ... hmm I love the standard carbies...I pulled the SC off the KE30 yesterday.....hunted around in the garage til I found a standard carby laying on the floor, and bolted it on....BOOM fires into life and idles from dead cold...I reckon they rule :) hehe if only it was that easy .... :lolcry: Dyzza Quote

It also sounds like its running on 3 cylinders when its trying to idle and with a good carby now on the motor, its still doing the same thing... are you sure all 4 are firing properly? maybe you have a lead or plug breaking down giving an erratic idle. these problems are usually more noticeable at idle than at revs. dpending on the age of the plugs leads and entire ignition system maybe try replacing/checking/servicing all parts to ensure theres no issues there. dyzza..torch it :P Quote
