hi, bought a ke70 that I'm now trying to get regoed, fixed most things but run out of ideas to fix the reverse lights

 

checked globes, connections to the globes, and connection to the 2 red and blue wires to the reverse switch on the gearbox

 

i have tested the reverse switch and am getting no signal(no volts or amps) so not sure what to do next? do i need a new switch? please help

 

 

weird thing..... when i initially checked if the 2 red and blue wires where connected to the reverse switch i found they where connected to/around a bolt above and left(towards the engine) of the reverse switch.

 

any insight or suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

You lost me a bit but from what i can gather that you are saying the reverse lights wires were not even connected to the switch when you first looked at it ..

 

You say there is no signal from the switch, is that with the wires on ? as the switch on its own will do nothing, one of the wires should have 12 volts to it & the other wire will go down the back to the reverse light globes ..

 

So check which of the 2 wires at the switch has 12 volts to it & go from there, if no power check all the fuses ..

Hi Liam,

The circuit for the reversing/back-up lights is one of the simplest in the Corolla. The 12 volts is supplied by the ignition switch, so the ignition switch must be "ON" or "RUN" position for the reversing lights to work. They will not work with the ignition switch in the "ACCESSORIES" position. The 12 volts is then fed to the DEFOGGER fuse, which often also feeds the dash guages & dash lights. If your dash lights & guage are working, then you should have power to your reversing lights circuit. The 12 volts is then fed to the reversing switch on the top of the gearbox. From the there the 12 volts is fed directly back to the reversing lights. If you are concerned that that the fault maybe the switch itself, simply unplug the loom wires from the switch & short them together. If the lights then work, you've found the problem. If not, then you will need to chase the 12 volts with a test lamp from the fuse, at every connection point right back to the bulbs.

 

Let us know if you still can't get them going, or find the problem.

i think the problem is that ive only tried it on "accessories" and not in "on" or "run" haha so much frustration over something simple, i will test tomorrow :) if that dosnt work then ill do what banjo said

tried it with the wires connected to the reverse switch with the car on....... nothing :(

 

shorted/measure the two wires and got nothing, dash lights & gauges are working so i don't think its a fuse.

 

will chase the wires either tonight if i have time or tomorrow
