Gramps Rolla
Help My grandad has just severly damaged his 4AFC in his AE92 Rolla. Mechanics quoted him a few Grand for a fix and I've offered to help find him an engine. Seems I can get a 4AFE easy but no 4AFC. Will it go in his Rolla? How much more work/money? Any help would be great Thanks

Felix
if you only need a bottom end.... a 4afe bottom end is the same as a 4afc one. the heads are different as the injector bosses are in the head on a 4afe.
ancullen
That's a fair bit of cost and trouble to go to just get a new motor in. Remember that all the fuel lines will have to be changed over to high pressure EFI lines (from the rear of the car to the front). An AE92 wouldn't really be worth the cost. You could sell the car for a couple of hundred to someone who wants to drop in a performance motor and find a replacement car for your grandad. Spending $2,500 plus labour just seems wasteful. And Nick, remember that they're probably looking at a reconditioned motor. But yes, you could easily get a 4A-FE for around $750-1000 from a wreckers.
