Nitephyre Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) I've decided to bite the bullet and put the Corolla on the road since I've managed to put yet another ding on the Century and I'm sick of it getting paint chips, scratches, and general trashedupery etc etc. SO while this isn't a project thread per se, I will probably include some before, current and after shots etc, but will also be asking general questions. First one is who has any spare headlight and indicator relays I could borrow to try and determine why the blinkers/hazards/headlights aren't working. Globes are all fine, I can hear the relay for the blinkers go nuts under the dash, but no lighty lighty. With the headlights, they don't come on Low/High beam, but the parkers do. It got a nice new battery (since the old one was f@$ked after three years of bugger all use), some new terminals and some fuel system cleaner today... Next on the list will be the rear shackle bushes to stop the back end squeaking when sha.. err driving normally, and whatever else I need to do for roadworthy. Any ideas or offers to help *coughs quietly* will be appreciated  Cheers, Matt  Edited June 12, 2006 by NiteP]-[yRe
Teddy Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 when Justin comes back from holidays, come up and visit us onday when were workin on the blue car, and ill / we'll see whats spare.. theres bound to be something up there to help you  WE WILL GET IT READY FOR 7th AUGUST !!!!!! heheheheh awesome to see its still alive mate
Nitephyre Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 oh it's still alive, kind of... just hasn't left the garage for over a year.. took it around the block on my private suburb on sunday, was good to give it a drive. say, where did you get all your bushes etc and how much avg were they?
Teddy Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Through repco and toyota - depends, ive replaced so many things; ive lost track of the price of bushes
Nitephyre Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 ah ok... is it a hard job to do? what tools etc.. nicko, you working on saturday? if not i might come up and borrow some parts if tis ok with you guys :jealous:
Teddy Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 yeah, hes workin saturday and nooo one will be home; next saturday tho, ill be up there with justin :jealous:
Nitephyre Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 thats coo, at geebung yeah? if so, could you bring them down and i'll come get them off ya.. not trying to be pushy :D but since i've only got weekends to work on it, need to try and work shit out.. plus it's annoying heh.. the ones i need to test are the H3 and H4 from the main fuse/relay box in the engine bay... and i think there's one under the dash.. don't know it's number though.. if not it's cool, i'll try and find other things to fix.. it has enough heh :jealous:
Nitephyre Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 heh it's cool man... i'll work it out :jealous:
Nitephyre Posted June 17, 2006 Author Report Posted June 17, 2006 well hold the phone folks, it's all good. a day of persevering pulling the dash apart and i've managed to: Fix Headlights Fix Indicators & Hazards Almost get the horn working.. it's not contacting somewhere *Think* i've also managed to fix the odo, as it wasn't ticking over the kays even though the tripmeter was And whilest i've got it apart, i'm pondering making white dials and maybe having a blue or orange backlight... maybe, i'll think about it. So now all there is to do i think is to fix the rear shackle bushes, give it a wash down and take it for a roadworthy to find out what other shit needs fixing :jealous: Good Times :D
Nitephyre Posted June 24, 2006 Author Report Posted June 24, 2006 (edited) Ok another weekend update I went to the wreckers to get some parts I wanted to replace. I got an uncracked plastic handbrake cover, two seatbelt stalks as i needed a matching pair (and unbroken), new gearknob vinyl surround thingy, couple of squirter jets. BUT, it pays to raid gloveboxes, because the icing on the cake is a couple of sedan manuals, Emission Control & Maintenance Guide and a Maintenance schedule. Both manuals have decent pages in them, one has a dodgy cover. So i've got some more handy 'collectables' which I'll keep, although I might sell one of the manuals. All for $50 :) Most of the electrics seem to be working properly now, although I start it up today and it's doing something wierd with the voltage regulator when I get to mid-range revs. I can hear it clicking on/off and the Charge light flickers when it clicks. If i turn the lights or blinkers on, the clicking stops, but comes back when lights etc are off. So, i'm not too sure why it's doing that now. Anyway, off to buy some misc plugs etc to fix exposed wired / bad connections, maybe that'll help. :y: Edited June 24, 2006 by NiteP]-[yRe
Nitephyre Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 Sunday Update, even though it seems no one is reading... I've hit more stumbling blocks... well more stumbling Great Wall of China's really. I was going to give it a wash, but first I decided to take off the roofracks to see how the holes were etc. Of course, I knew there was rust in it, but how bad I wasn't sure. Now though, I wished that I had left it alone. I decided to check out the other areas that I knew were meh, and again got more than I'd hoped for, and I haven't found all of it yet. So now, I'm not exactly sure whether it's worth continuing with this one. Maybe I should just stick to sedans / wagons or try to find another panelvan that actually has a decent body, for a good price (and govt's will come clean on revenue cameras, hah) or not bother at all. Yeah, so I'm not feeling very enthused at the moment, and it's unlikely to be any time soon that it'll be in a roadworthy state. If ever. Click Here For The Evidence (Plus pics of those books etc I found) Cheers, Matt :)
Nitephyre Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 yeah nick, I know... not too happy about it, wasn't expecting it to be that bad. so right now I'm back to square one again, as usual... maybe i might try and find a nice AE95 wagon... always had a soft spot for them. even if the engine is the wrong way around, it drives all four of them... 4AGZ(T)E would tickle it along :nods: meh, all dreams anyway... peace out
Nitephyre Posted August 2, 2006 Author Report Posted August 2, 2006 Well, as of today... PV1 has been relegated to Cancerous Parts Donor spec since I now am the proud owner of a 1984 AE71 Panelvan. So, without further adue, if mr moderator can click the lock, thank you :lock_folder: Anyhow, i'll probably do up a thread on the weekend with some new pics etc :hmm: Cheers, Matt :lock:
