irokin Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Turbos can be setup so that they don't lag (ask Avalonea, he knows his shit) Anti lag is bad mmmkay...unless you like replacing your exhaust every 50km..or your willing to fork out for a proper titanium system ;) Nitrous oxide helps...lots... andrew Posted June 13, 2004 Author Report Posted June 13, 2004 geuss what i just found. i was "surfing the net" when i came across some listings of parts for a 22-rge, yes a twin cam 22-re! i am trying to now found out where i can get a 22-rge head for my engine, but by the looks of it (and depending on the costs), i may have to import one from japan, as i found no info from aus Quote
andrew Posted June 13, 2004 Author Report Posted June 13, 2004 thanks. i will search as hard as i can and i won't give up until i have a twin cam head pearched on my block then i will have to get 2 regrinds! Quote
andrew Posted June 14, 2004 Author Report Posted June 14, 2004 yep. i will be singing "i've got the power!" Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 i've seen guys on the net get 3Y torago blocks (2.2L?) and modify and weld a 2t-g head onto them to get a twincam bigblock. there's a site out there that tells you exactly how to do it with pictures, but i can't remember where i saw it Quote
irokin Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 22R-GE comes off a cressida I believe...I'll keep my eyes peeled for one... Quote
irokin Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Also...have you heard of the 20R head on a 22R?? Similar to 3K head on a 4K... apparently they flow better... http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Inform..._tech_notes.htm that page may be of use to you "For modified configuration- the 20R head on top of early 22Rs will instantly give higher compression. All heads must be ported with big valves installed. Be careful of camshaft choice, just remember that all slow modified 20 / 22R / 22RE engines have been over-cammed. Do not try to install cams with duration over 280 on single carb or fuel injection models. Twin side carburetors are the best way to go. For limited budget use the Weber 38 DPS. Headers installed with 2 3/4" exhaust will be optimal. A heavier flywheel will help 4WD models, that should also have the gear ratios changed to compensate for tire sizes. " "Although we have successfully used the 22RE in circuit racing and rallying, and truck off-road racing- the only reason these engines were used was because of the race regulations. The handicap is the block configuration- which was built for torque and longevity- meaning slow and heavy. The cylinder head modifications, if properly done increases head flow by up to 200%. " Quote
andrew Posted June 15, 2004 Author Report Posted June 15, 2004 Also...have you heard of the 20R head on a 22R?? Similar to 3K head on a 4K... apparently they flow better... http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Inform..._tech_notes.htm yes i have heard of this early 22re block and late 20r head give you more compression and the use of double row timing chain (late 22re's use single) as the 20r also, yes, flows better, bigger valves and ports. they also have better combustion chamber shapes. i downloaded a heap of info from turbotoys.com of the 22re performance combinations. also if you could keep an eye 22-rge's that would be much appreciated! :D Quote
andrew Posted August 5, 2004 Author Report Posted August 5, 2004 i changed my mind about the regrind. the engine shop thats doing the mods imported a cam and titaniam valve springs for the 22re from crane in the US. i forget all the specs but its range is 2500rpm - 7100rpm! and specificly says not to use stock efi with it! so far my engine has had all the bottom work done, and now has had oversize forgies put in!!!!! :) :S  i am also going super oversize valves now as the stockers just won't cut the butter, so it's all coming along, and expecting it to be back in car hopefully in a month orso. i can't wait. will keep ya's posted Quote
andrew Posted August 5, 2004 Author Report Posted August 5, 2004 oh yeah, i picked up the clutch fo it too the other week. omg the sexiest thing ever!!! a 5 puck brass button clutch plate with stiffer centre springs, and a 1.5 ton pressure plate, brand new for $300!!!!!! will post pics when i get the digicam back Quote
Teddy Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 oh this sounds like a nice rona! You said " had oversize forgies" - as in pistons? - is it now a 2.5 lol  Quote
