Hey guys looked around on google but couldn't find a how to... I need to remove the chrome trim on the doors around the windows before I paint my car and i can't seem to figure out how to release those clips holding them in place... anyone able to offer any help? Cheers
-
ps how do you guys think that turismo mica holden colour would go on a rolla?
-
damn I'm doing the same thing now but my car is that lame sky blue so i can't just find an off the shelf paint to match.. Go to a automotive paint supply store and buy a decent gun, you can get a good enough one for around 120 roughly. i'm starting to hate my rolla now though, every time i think i have the roof straight or the boot lid straight i just find another mark and i'm starting to turn all OCD on this project! can't wait for the finished product though

yeah i gave the throttle body a good clean and spray lubed all the moving parts when it first happened but it didn't solve the problem. I'm fairly certain it's the cable after looking at it today.
-
Yeah I had that feeling, i was playing with it earlier today and turning by hand it doesnt stick at all, looking at the cable i can see there is a slight kink in it if you pull it out as far as it can go :( owell better get that replaced then..

Hey just wondering if anyone else has ever had this? recently my 4ag's throttle body would stick when i release the throttle which makes it stay open after letting go of the pedal. Could it be the bushings that the shaft holding the butterfly in has worn out and isn't lubricated and is there a way to recondition the TB to fix the issue? I also noticed since putting the 4ag into my current KE70 that the pedal feels a lot lighter than it did in the previous ke.

What's the spring rate and free height of those springs Crostek? Just out of curiosity i've seen everyone running 8 6 combos but that sounds like it would be a stiff and bumpy ride if it's road driven as well, would let's say a 7 5 or maybe a 8 5 work a bit nicer but still be sweet for a bit of drifting at the practice days?

ok when i did the install i just copied wire for wire what the previous guy did so i set it up exactly like he did. from what it looks like looking at that COR plug the previous dude wired up the earth and the starter signal up in reverse. (white/black was earthed and black connected to starter signal). will try swapping them over and see how it goes then.
-
that would be great thanks man, i got the wiring diagram for the ke70, the ECU pin outs and a basic diagram which is mostly in Jap so it's not the easiest to work with, only one I don't really have is the COR diagram. Think there is just a weak connection somewhere, because today we started the car by engaging the relay by hand and when you let go of the switch the electro magnet kept the switch engaged when the engine ran and disengaged as it should. I'm thinking I have one of a few problems going on: 1. there is a bad earth somewhere and the circuit isn't getting good continuity 2. my battery might be on the brink and can't power the relay enough to engage when cranking. 3. loose connections somewhere. 4. relay is just getting old.
-
and it ended up being the Circuit open relay... it isnt switching properly, when i switch it via hand it starts fine. tomorrows job: look for bad wire connections and bad earth points.

i can tell the immobilizer works because when its engaged the charge light is off and when it is disengaged it comes on. might bypass it tomorrow and have a look if it works. Just giving a heads up too, this is a ke70 with a conversion, was running sweet before i went away over east and was running for a while just randomly cut out last night. I'll test the pump like you suggested with shorting the terminal and see if it's working or not.
-
Noticed the problem my car is having is the fuel pump isn't pumping! how can I test the pump to see if it's broken and how likely is it for a fuel pump to just die all of the sudden? my immobilizer does switch off the pump too but i'm not sure if it's the immobilizer's problem because i was driving when it cut out. suggestions on how to test the pump would be great.
-
thanks heaps mate! i could find codes for pretty much every engine model except my own. car cut out on the way out last night of all times! never would of thought my trusty rolla would cock block me :bash:

hey guys i got a 4age 16v tvis bigport with map sensor set up and randomly started getting error codes 5, 9 and 10. mine is a early model and i think it is only meant to get the single digit codes, i had a list of them somewhere previously but now i can't for the life of me find them! been all over google and forums and can only find the smallport / newer model with 2 digit pin codes. can anyone help. sorry in advance for the rookie question i just having such a hard time tracking down that list again.
-
yeah good job trev, i actually found that on google when i was doing the work, helped me heaps. I was going to post the link here when i was making a report but lost it!

owell i should be picking up a set of 86 struts and hubs this week some time... just got to get some calipers and rotors but while I'm at it i can just as well check the measurements on my ke struts as well.
-
how late is the later model? because i got a slant front made in 84? I also got ae71 fronts from the same year. guess i can only pull them apart and see if they fit, if not just gather the stuff over time..
-
err thanks dude.... but that hardly explains my question... all it says is you need this n u need that without a explanation as to why... e.g are the spindles different diameter/lengths, different bearings etc etc...
-
just to clarify I was looking at a set up that comes complete with a spindle, that's why I am asking if i could use my ke70's hubs. rotors n calipers etc for the time being.
-
thanks for that. wasn't really chasing a straight bolt in as such but was just looking at all the parts i need to source and was just seeing if i needed to get everything at once or if i could get the core parts and then extras later. I'm just picturing in my head that the 86 and e70 hubs should be the same at least so you can use the rotors/calipers on 86 struts for the time being.
-
Just reading how people put 86 struts in their cars for improvements etc so i was shopping around... and i am wondering if i can buy a full aftermarket suspension set (front and rear) for an 86, can i use the control arms, steering arms, hubs, rotors and calipers from my ke70? They should line up / fit shouldnt they?

yep i get it.. Even though I couldn't get a value closer to the 2.3k yesterday I set it at 0.03 which was the highest I could get it when using the .35mm feeler. but hey presto after fixing up those dizzy wires everything is working a treat! going into diagnostic DOES make my ignition timing retard by ~5 degrees when not in diagnostic mode i AM getting timing advance when revving. and it is the timing is sitting perfectly without any fuss at 900rpm. thanks for all the help guys, would never of checked the ecu - distributor and ecu - igniter wires if no one suggested it!
-
yep i did that to check yesterday, unplugged the TPS and also the vacuum sensor and the corresponding error codes came up. my idle is fairly consistant at the moment, but when i just cruise along then come to a stop it will sit at around 12-1300 then blip the accellerator and it drops to 1000. so when it says below 2.3 k ohm roughly what kind of figure am i expecting?
-
yeah I'm confused as to why no errors came up as well... When I checked the tps it says the earth and IDL pins should have <2.3 kilo Ohms with a .35mm spacer, mine was only getting 0.02. it was the highest I could get it as well so that is looking like a potential problem as well. I mean it does say less than 2.3 k ohm but 0.02 k ohm is ridiculously lower.

out of curiosity what did you run in the rear end to work well with that S13 set up? and I assume you are running the 86 gear in the rear now with your 86 front?
