Managed to get hold of a window eventually. thanks guys matt

I think the problem is more to do with the surf cooling system/radiator etc. Like I said, check out exploroz, there'll be heaps of info. Even the Fishnet 4x4 forum might have some useful stuff. matt
-
Yeah that's not a bad idea. I wonder how much a glazier would charge to take a piece off. Might look into it. matt
-
Thanks for the offer, mate. I'll see how I go and get back to you. Thanks very much. matt

As I said, the dimensions are very similar. There only appears to be about 10mm difference and it's hard to tell if they are actually different or it's due to the difficulty of measuring a window while it's still in a door frame. matt

Surfs are renowned for overheating problems. Have a search on the ExplorOz website/forum and you'll find heaps of discussions about it. Many people believe that since Surfs are grey imports and were never intended to be sold in Australia, they are not built for Australian conditions. I haven't read too much into the issue but it doesn't seem like there is an easy fix to the problem. Maybe a radiator upgrade? ExplorOz would be the place to ask, and the question has probably already been answered on there so have a search. My advice would be to trade it in for a 4runner since Toyota actually built them with the intention of selling them here and they are a much more reliable vehicle. No turbo diesel though, unfortunately, but the 2.8 diesel is the original unbreakable one and is efficient. It will dead-set go forever. The V6 is thirsty but has lots of go. Older models had the 2.4 diesel which is also very reliable. matt

Hi all, My KE70 wagon was broken into last week. They smashed the front passenger side window. Does anyone happen to know if an 8 Corona window is the same size? The dimensions seem very similar and I have acces to a dead corona but I don't want to go to the trouble of pulling the window out if it's not gonna fit in the rolla. thanks guys matt

How To Mod To Increase Turning Radius???
mattl replied to ronald_loulan's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Superglue the steering wheel so it only goes straight ahead. You can't increase the turning circle any more than that :lolcry: matt -
My dash has a decent crack straight through it, I've never been bothered to do anything about it, though. If I was going to I'd probably fill the crack with araldite making sure it completely filled the crevace and there were no air bubbles. I'd then leave it about a week to go super hard, then sand it back and paint or cover it. matt

Thanks guys. I was aware of all those sources. I was after something electronic. thanks anyway matt

Hi all, I know this is a super long shot but I'm looking for a downloadable version of a workshop/repair/service manual for 1998, 100 series, 1HZ, 4.2 litre diesel Landcruiser. In fact any manual relating to the 1HZ engine would be useful. I've looked through all the 4x4 forums and can't find anything. Anyone happen to know of anything? thanks heaps. matt

Like I said, the body isn't in the greatest shape anyway so I'm content just hosing it off for now. Once I sand blast the rust, fill the holes, get a replacement front left quarter panel, a replacement front bumper and respray the thing, I might then be inclined to take further action against the eggs. But surely the a/c would be useful if you got it regassed, no? So what needs to be done before it's roadworthy? Anywho, I'm still intrigued by this knee-freezer thingo. What's the story? matt ps - I saw a nice looking ke30 (maybe?) wagon at uni today. It's blue and looks in great nick. Have you seen it around?

What Does The Inside Of Your Wagon Or Panel Van Look Like?
mattl replied to mattl's topic in Automotive Discussion
OK, I've done the woodgrain panels for the left hand side of the wagon - the side with the jack compartment. I'm just waiting for them to dry so I can stick them on and take some pics. I'm pretty happy with them. Do people think it'd be useful for me to write a step by step thingy on how to do the wood grain panels? And if so, what would be the best forum to post it in, Nick? Here or Projects? matt -
Yeah, that's it. It's a ke70, not an ae71, not that there's any difference. The body isn't in the best of shape but the engine and everything else is great. I'm gonna try to get around to sand blasing the rust out in the next few months. Someone keeps egging it on Kern Bros Drive. I'm not sure why they choose my car but it's starting to sh*t me. Yeah, the cyclone. Bit of an anti-climax. We spent the weekend preparing for it and then nothing really happened. Maybe the next one will be more eventful for us. Regarding the re-gassing. Isn't it pretty common for compressors of that age to require re-gassing? I don't think you should necessarily assume that it's leaking. Out of interest, how slow is your car when the a/c is running? Does it make a huge difference to the power? matt
-
Thanks for the heads up on the wreckers. I'll check it out if I get a chance. How come yours doesn't go? Needs re-gassing? WTF is a knee freezer? Thanks dude. matt

What Does The Inside Of Your Wagon Or Panel Van Look Like?
mattl replied to mattl's topic in Automotive Discussion
The P-vans look good, boys, nice work. I'm going to do similar panels but with ply instead of MDF. Then I think I'll stain them pretty dark and coat them with some high gloss clear laquer to get a sexy wood-grain effect. I've got the ply marked out, just gotta find time to cut it out etc. Will hopefully get started this weekend. I'll post some pics if I get round to it. matt -
Thanks for the heads up. At least there are *some* around. Too bad Tamworth is so far from Townsville. I'm sure I'll come across one eventually. Yeah, the 4kc is slow without a/c and I'm sure it'll be wore with it. But it's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make, it's just way too hot up here to not have air-con. thanks matt

Right you are. In that case, Dan, your speakers suck, dude! :) Nice panels 36VAN! matt -

Speaker panels look nice, Dan. Good work. Yeah I don't anticipate that the wiring of an extra interior light would be difficult. I'd be more worried about it looking good cosmetically. I'm thinking it could be wired up so that both interior lights were controlled by the original switch, but the rear light has an override switch so it can be turned on manually. Anyway, I'm sure it's not difficult. AE35, what's worng with your locks, if you don't mind me asking? I'm having trouble with my tail gate lock. matt -
Hi, don't mean to hijack your thread, but I'd be interested to know if its possible to get the chrome trims on the roof gutters off. I've got few spots of rust in the gutter and it's gonna be annoying to get at while the trim is on. thanks matt
-
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about pimpin' the back of my ke70 wagon a little and wondering if anyone wants to post a pic of their work to give me some ideas. I'm not thinking anything major. Proably just replace the dodgy blue trim panels with some nice hardwood ply coated with clear gloss epoxy. A pair of nice 6x9s in the tail gate panel and some nice new carpet. Maybe a sub box down the track. So if you've modded your wagon or panel van, chuck up a pic for me. Thanks heaps. matt Ps - I'd also be interested to see of anyone has installed a light in the roof of the cargo area & how difficult it was.

That's unbelieveable. Looks like it just came from the showroom. Full grampa spec, yeah? How mank k's are on it? As for your power issue. Yeah, it is only a 1.3, don't expect too much. As others have said, just get a tune up, put new filters and plugs in and maybe go for PULP if you're happy to spend the extra cash. Don't expect to do burn outs, but it should run nice and smooth if it's happy. matt
-
Dude, you are an absolute f*%king champion. You should get a nobel prize or something, great work. I can't thank you enough. That car of yours is a deadset gold mine. matt

My aspirations are somewhat more conservative than others but anyway... Firstly I'd get the few small rust spots out of my KE70 wagon (which I'm gonna do anyway), Then I'd get rid of the 4k-c engine and stick in a 4AGE with air-con (man I want air-con), I'd replace the 4 speed manual with a 5 speed of some description, I'd get some new front seats and a new steering wheel, I'd stick in an mp3/cd player that an Ipod could plug into, I'd replace the front 4" speakers with some high quality ones, Then some beefy 6x9s would go into the tail gate, The windows would get tinted as dark as possible, I'd respray the car white and get some 5 spoke alloy wheels, And I'd probably upgrade my driving lights for something bigger and better, If I had some cash left over I'd upgrade the suspension. matt

I'm waiting with bated breath, mate... :locked: TIA matt Thanks Moses. I'll probably see how I go locally for now. Not something I really want to spend much dosh on. Where abouts in oz are you? matt Definitely right - even more of a sweat box than it already is. It's nice up here in June, you should try Dec/Jan. Looks like we might have some cyclone action now too - it's all fun. matt
