  1. Sprayed the bumpers to make them look a bit nicer and cleaned up the rims.
  2. When i come to doing engine work, my uncle will tell me what to do. He has built a few race engines in his time, even a few out of 4k's.
  3. Looking foward to seeing your progress.
  4. Yeah. It fit with my budget and it turned out quite nice. And we did it in my dads shed with no complaints from anyone and it was easy to clean up after each day.
  5. Dad has since finished off the paint job. But I haven't had a chance to go get photos due to him and myself working. But hopefully on sunday i'll be over there putting it back together and seeing it in full painted and all for the first time. Still need to get parker lights and the indicators for the guards and possibly some tyres due to minor roadworthy issues with the ones I have. Let me know what you think and i'll have some more photos up as soon as I can get some!
  6. The most exciting part was seeing it after it was painted. Really does just bring a car to life. May not be perfect but hey, it's alright for a first car, and definatly not bad for a 2nd car paint job ever.
  7. Did a few coats of primer. Then we decided to put a black stripe along the bottom which I think will look good with the black bumpers and what not.
  8. The painting was the biggest pain. We did it the cheap way, acrylic paint, and my dad did the work. Keep in mind he hasn't painted a car in over 10 years and that was the only car he has ever painted. Did it over 3 or 4 sundays.
  9. Needed new headlights. I thought this would be hard to find. Had some people try sell me some second hand for $100 a set. Found a local parts store sells them for $40 each off the shelf. Then didn't even have to buy any as the ones in my dads old Rodeo are exactly the same. So got me some free headlights. Lucky me.
  10. Had to have the windscreen replaced as it had a crack from top to bottom right in the middle. Was only $200 which I thought was good. Everything has been done on a very small budget as I earn crap all. Dad has helped along the way with the money though.
  11. The almighty 4k. Engine was basically all good. Had a few issues with it starting here and there. Replaced some bits in the carby now it runs fine and starts fine. Has 166,000k's on the clock which isn't too bad really for its age.Was serviced not long ago according to the sticker that was on the windscreen.
  12. We also swapped the doors over at some stage too. This is what the black one ended up looking like, with minimal useable parts. But a guy bought it from me for $100. He also Sold me my exhaust and some extra standard rims.
  13. Not really of major importance but the centre console was in really bad condition and taped together but we fixed it up and painted it to make it look nicer. Even a bit of carpet underneath the handbrake for the extra nice look. Haha.
  14. My 'TOYROLLA' badges and the plates I managed to get for it.
  15. Little extra work my dad put in after work during the week. Boot looks better then the rest of the car!
  16. Put the 'better' seats in. Tried to clean them up a little but who knows how long those stains have been there for.
  17. We then swapped the suspension over.. Again guessing our way around it all. Took the standard and chopped springs out and put the lowered King springs out of the black car in. Sits a lot nicer now. Would still like to go lower but this is enough for now.
  18. Our first task was to swap the diffs. Did it all just guessing our way. We only worked on the car on sundays and usually got a heap done each time.
  19. I didn't manage to get photos of the rust before or after but my dad is a boiler maker by trade and he cut and welded it all up. So now there is no rust left. There is a few little dents here and there but we aren't too worried about that as this is my first car.
  20. Hey guys, thanks for looking already. Got a few more posts to do. I was a bit late on doing this build thread. We are almost finished the car now. Keep an eye out on here and you'll see our progress. Got a few photos and stuff to upload.
  21. After a while me and my dad started talking about a car for me. We found this car for $500 went and had a look and it was in very good condition body wise.. Very little rust and what rust there was, dad removed. It had basically no interior, just the two front seats (what more do you really need right?) but they were had it. No seat belts, locked diff, cut springs and no exhaust.
  22. My mate bought this rolling shell for $300 as a project for us to do. But after a few weeks we sorta lost interest due to too much rust work needing to be done. It did come with some extra bits that helped us down the line, like suspension, diff, interior and rims.
