The whole setup worked fine before I chopped the knuckles. So go figure.. -
Ke70 Steering Problem!!!! (Ackerman)
Whatsausername? replied to Whatsausername?'s topic in General Mechanical
Looking for solutions, not opinions mate.. Cheers anyway. -
Okay, so I'll start off by giving you an insight on what parts I'm running. I'm using the stock ke70 crossmember and steering rack, r31 rack and tie rod ends, r31 lca's to s13 knuckles and suspension. So I've done what most people do for extra lock and modded my knuckles (cut of 20mm) and now I have some serious Ackerman issues. One wheel is full lock and the other is probably not even half lock. Some help would be grouse.

So, digging up a fossil thread here but thought I'd add some pics.. The car has progressed a bit over the last couple years (I know, it's taking ages) but the suspension is in, steering in, cage in, and the engine and box, just sorting out wiring at the moment..

S13 Knuckles Onto Ke70 Lca's
Whatsausername? replied to Whatsausername?'s topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
10mm longer than KE lca's or S13 lca's? -
Okay, So basic plans are... I have the stock Ke70 crossmember, Lca's, Rack, Tie rod ends, Sway bar etc etc....BUT I am using/want to use S13 knuckles/brakes....All is good and well except the hole on the knuckle is a mm or 2 too big compared to the KE70's ball joint...Any way to fix this? Cheers, Nathan.

Time is a virtue, If you do the dirty work now then you won't have to do it later on down the track, I now know for a fact that my strut towers aren't ever going to move or warp. "An ounce of prevention is worth a tonne of cure"
-
Still need to grind those weld back a little bit too...
-
Yea you shouldn't have a problem getting it in, Just it will be sitting a lot further back than normal due to the lenght of a silvia compared to a rolla haha And Yea I done a wee bit more welding on my strut towers, Spot welds wouldn't do shit so...
-
Nice nice, If done right your can be used as a daily or well on the roads anyway haha...Only problem with the Silvia gearbox is that they sit a LOT further back than the original 4K box, You will defiantly need to do some fabricating, But that's piss easy anyway  Here is a link to my build, Work on it has been a little slow the last few weeks due to me trying to sort out finances for a new Volkswagen Amarok My Build

Nice pick mate, Looks exactly like mine before I started...So are you planning on doing some panel and paint resto or just work where the sun don't shine?. What running gear do you plan on using? (ie. Gearbox, Crossmember, Diff)? And good luck trying to get all of that rust, I myself just cut the whole back end out haha Come up a treat if I don't say so myself. haha :) So what's the purpose of your build, Drift, Time attack or circuit?

Small update...Gave the whole car a cut and polish yesterday, Turned out a treat, The whole car and especially the roof now feel like glass!! ^_^ Before After

I haven't really looked into the AE86 gear, I'm assuming it's 4 stud yes? And power steering helps when driving slowly with a locked diff and when going fast it's just a shitload smoother....But I suppose I could look into/try AE86 gear, and if I like it i'll keep it... And so I can buy a whole AE86 front end *Crossmember/LCA's/Steering rack/ etc etc* for $400???
-
And power steering is easier for me with a locked diff haha
-
Hahaha, Yea i'm going to have a mess of brands in my car, And well I would run an AE86 setup in the front end but no power steering :/ Unless I can somehow use a power steering rack with an AE crossmember, Hmm, Will have to look into that! haha
-
I'm doing everything myself, And i'm going S13 gear cause of power steering for one and the big brakes, And S13 gear in KE70's have steering problem apparently.... Challenge accepted!
-
On the prowl for: S13 Crossmember and steering rack S14 Hubs and Brakes/rotors S13 or S14 LCA's And Nah, Chrome looks neat and tidy in my opinion.. And Jake, What Crossmember/Engine mounts did you use??
-
I think i'll have to go for a trip to the wreckers then... And yea 1uz's have been going into corolla's for ages, But the smiths took it that one step further and put a lot of thought and detail into the build, With the steering, all the mods in and around the car and the end result was just amazing! haha And yes track only, I'm on my green P's so :glare: ( 4ltr V8 Corolla > 4K Daily )

Chrome trim above the doors, and that little bit that goes just behind the back doors, White DEEP dish wheels with stretched tyres, Gloss white full cage inside.....Should look dope  Seriously need help finding: Chrome trim... Just above the doors, Behind the back doors and the trim around the windscreen And a set of Quad lights and chrome bumpers!!!! Haha

Gotta say, I'm pretty happy with how the paint has come out, considering I done it all myself in a dusty little shed
