Well from all the conversion builds and threads I've been reading it look like I'll have to get another diff...And why I. LSD so popular, isn't a locked diff better??? And the weight, unsure seeing how the car is in pieces, and I'm putting an SR20DET in it withe the SR box for now. Also, what is better, disk or drum? :/ Cheers for the replies :)

Done my diff research, And honestly it's giving me a headache, People say yes and no to the same diffs? -_______- Just looking for some straight/simple answers... Common diffs that I found... Does it have?...Will it need?... Well the way I see it is, If I use the S13 steering rack the engine has to come forward 30mm which brings the shifter forward (Because i've decided ill just use the stock box) and I get power steering (Which will be a dream when parking with a locked diff!) And the power steering in the S13 should be pretty much perfect, It's not like all new cars where you can just throw the wheel around cause it that smooth... -

Hey all, Just a quick question, I am stippig my KE70, Painting it then puting an SR20DE in it, And what I need to know it does any og the wires need to stay, and the brake booster, does it need to go?...I've been told to completly stip the car so there is nothing left so I justr thought i'd ask for some second opinions. Cheers :)

Got it pretty on track and sorted now, I'm gonna go with an SR20DE frontcut (Pretty straight forward converson, Cheap, easy and enough grunt to slide), and as for the diff i'm going to shorten the diff out of an old R31, Haven't made my mind up about coilovers, and brakes are still on the list...Got any recomendations for Coils and brakes? :)

Cheers for the reply Phillip, I read on another forum that the steering rack and crossmember just need to be taken forward 30mm then I can use the S13 steering rack, And yea i'll just stick with KE coilovers :wink: -
With the S13 halfcut, Can I use the steering rack out of the S13 or am I stuck with the KE's stock rack?? And also am I supposed to buy S13 coilovers or KE70 ones? Is there much difference between them and which would be better?? Cheers :)

One more question for ya's, Seeing how i'm buying the S13 front cut, Do I use the S13 steering rack?? And also do I buy Aftermarket KE70 Coilovers or aftermarket S13 coilovers??? Cheers :)

I can do the conversion, I just have to keep the new engine STOCK *Which is what i've been saying* And even so very slight mods won't do any harm, As long as I keep the power on the down low and within the limits....

Seeing how I am only on my p's I can't have turbo'd/supercharged....Yet :wink: And how I see it is, Why buy a 4AGE then spend all of my money buying parts and doing it up to scrape SOME power out of it when I can buy a stock SR20 and put those parts in IT instead? :huh: *Not that I plan to YET* And it seemed that every different thread and forum had a different name/number for the gearbox, I was getting confused and fed up so I just asked....Is that so hard to answer?......

I want to go the SR because they come with enough HP stock to get that lil' beast around corners sideways with no mods at all, Plus they're relitavly cheap anyhow haha:wink:

Well i'll deffinatly keep an eye out for faults etc etc, And even if the box does rub i'll just take the box out and give the ye' ole sledge hammer a swingin'! And i've been reading other threads about these SR's going into KE70's and they're going on about engineering certificates, wtf is that about? *Sorry if it's an obvious/blunt question* But don't ya just wack the engine in, Chuck a few bolts here and there, tune it up and hit the go fast pedel??? :hmm: :P

Thankyou Carlos, Best answer I have had yet! :happy: And I am located in Ipswich *40minute drive from Brisbane* And the reason I was going to get a different box is because i've read that the SR box sits further back and the gearstick will interfear with my drift enhancing device (Park Brake)??? :hmm: AND also that the SR box will be a bit tight, and I will most likely have to beat up my gearbox tunnel, True? But if it's simple and isn't too much hassle than by all means I will stick witht he SR box! :P

And I might even just get a s13 halfcut yet....Waiting on a price unless you have a rough estimate?

Yea I know I will be shoretening the diff and probably tailshaft, Customising the ceossmembers and possibly cutting a new hole for the gear stick but other than that, will this work?....And I have read somewhere that the SR bellhousing fits onto the RB box prerfectly? :hmm:

:blinks: Soo.......What I am TRYING to say is, There is a stock R31 skyline sitting behind my workshed, I am waiting on a reply to see if I can steal some parts, ie. Gearbox and the diff.....My question is would an SR20DET with the R31 Gearbox (With or without SR20's bellhousing?) with the R31 diff work in my ke70? *Without fabricating and f@$king around of gearbox's delicates*.... I just want a small slider to have fun with, I don't want to be wrapping it round a pole first drive! Not aiming for max horse power, Stock with slight mods for now...... :yes:

And sorry if this is a stupid question and feel free to call me a noob, but is an RB20 gearbox what comes in the stock R31 skylines???....I've tried researching it but I couldn't get any answers, I think I was using the wrong letter/numbers etc etc (It's been a long day) :bash:

Haha, Bit late for an S13 now, Iv'e already got and started pulling apart Carol (My KE70)....Besides, I don't really like the look of the S13's that much and I just want something small (For starters) haha :wink: I've done a shitload of research, I've found a thread explaining in almost every detail possible an SR20DET KE70 conversion, It's a clean looking ride and seemed simple enough, If I get stuck I've got threads to fall back on (I would with a 4age as well but anyway)....And if I buy a halfcut I will have everything I need and some, I will sell off the parts I don't need and use that to buy parts i'll need to replace etc etc And halfcut 4age's are completly stock aren't they? If I buy a halfcut 4age, won't I need to replce the cams, pistons etc etc to make up for the power difference I would be loosing out on if I don't buy an SR?

I am wanting to get into drift, It's wicked fun and there style is just hella clean... Well i'll try it with the SR box just so I'm not going out and spending $1600 for no gain. I have seen some engine packages but I think it's only the engine, Loom, ECU and maybe some other bits, Worth getting???

Yea I've done my research, just thought i'd double check and make sure it is right for me.....So just the stock standard SR box with the SR20DET would go hard enough you reckon? (I can get my hands on an R31 gearbox easyily from friends etc etc...) Any certain driveshaft to go with the SR, which will be leading to a stock R31 Diff?.... What else can I salvage from the halfcut besides Engine and gearbox? :/

Hey all... So i'm kind of stuck, Everytime I get close to choosing an engine I find something else that takes my fancy! :bash: I think i've found my FINAL choice! #1: What I would like to know is with an SR20DET would I have to use an SR cross-member or can I use the KE with mods? #2: With the gearboxes, Do I use an SR20 (Read that they might not line up with the KE's gearbox tunnel hole too well) On that same not they mentioned a RB gearbox would fit the SR20 as well as the KE gearbox hole...True? Reccomendations please! *R31 stock gearbox???? :hmm: So am I best off getting a Halfcut, Or get the engine seperate (Cause I will be buying different coilovers anyway)? OR be meainstream and settle for a 4age like EVERYONE else? :no2: Cheers in advance! :happy: :happy: :happy:
