  1. Awesome, sounds good. Let me just talk to my mate, he's not in the cash at the moment, just finished school and still trying to get a job he likes. I'll let you know what the verdict is about getting the new engine put in. On a side note, what would a vague cost of repairing busted o-rings be, or just a general rebuild of the 4A?
  2. No, i can't understand how it could cost that much. the cars new cost $32k, if the computer is half of that, where did they make any profit, unless the chassis is made of wood or something?
  3. I'll just be getting an aftermarket engine management system i think.
  4. The plot thickens. It turns out Toyota have referred this case to their Head Office for study. No one can diagnose the problem and the best idea they have is a faulty computer. It then turns out a new computer for the AE112R is $15,000. I'm not joking, this is what they said to me. I though they may have meant $1500, because $15,000 is almost how much the car is worth. I'm glad it's under warranty because there's no way I'd be replacing that computer with the stock ECU.
  5. Sounds like a good deal, only problem is the car is in Maitland. He's coming down in a few weeks, i'll see if he is willing bring it down here for that price of getting a new engine installed. Will the RWD engine still fit into the FWD AE82? i know the nissan CA18's have some differences between FR & FF engines.
  6. Well the funny thing is, i bought the car from a Honda dealership as a used car. With it i got a 3 year used car warranty. I took the car back to them for this, then they took it to Toyota to diagnose the problem. Honda then replaced the part Toyota told them was broken. Since this didn't fix it, Honda have now given the car back to Toyota to solve the problem. Such a pain in the arse just for a warranty claim.
  7. Hmm, never pulled an engine out before, is it a pain in the arse? Also was the AE-71 FR or FF?
  8. My girlfriend gave her brother her old AE82 last year, and it just started blowing heaps of blue smoke and it's pretty much shagged. Just wondering if anyone has or knows of a cheap way to get another engine. We're not looking for power, so not really after a 4A-GE, unless it's a good price, but just need a replacement engine so he can still get around. If anyone can help give me a yell, thanks. Leshy
  9. Well, Toyota managed to diagnose the problem incorrectly. The dizzy was replaced and the car still has the same problem. I guess we enter Chapter 2......
  10. Turns out it was a faulty dizzy. pretty rare occurance they tell me, the car is only 6 years old.
  11. I think you're right. I've taken it to the dealer i purchased it from as it's still under used car warranty. they'll be taking it to toyota for diagnostics check, but i figured if anyone has had the problem before i could save everyone some time and money.
  12. I've got an AE112R Sportivo Turbo, and while driving it likes to turn itself off. showed this to mechanic and NRMA dude, neither of which have any idea yet. it's still at the mech, but if i could get an easy fast solution it means i can get it back on the road. Basically after about 5 - 10 minutes of driving the car cuts out, as if i turned it off. if i turn the key to off, then back on again it will crank over. It doesn't get affected by the way i drive, either grandma like or takumi drift style. Anywho, i'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before. I'm thinking either faulty ignition barrel or distributor/ignition coil. let me know your thoughts guys. Leshy
  13. "bovs go on the boost side idiot." no shit sherlock, that's the pressured intake piping i'm talking about replacing. sorry i didn't explian it in great detail for you. mate i'm an engineer, i know how engines work probably better than you. don't try and one up me, if you have a problem with 'ricers' then take it somewhere else.
  14. mate, bov's aren't just for ricers, they're to stop pressure building up in your turbo/intake and damaging it. most bovs plumb back into the exhaust and don't make any noise. if you even had half a clue on how turbo engines worked you'd know this. get over yourself.
  15. nope, actually i've had a few looks at mine and i haven't yet found the stock bov. i do get a quiet sound, but i'm thinking it's the wastegate. i've got plans to remove the huge amounts of plastic intake piping and put a much shorter pipe to a pod filter, i'll be sticking a bov on that pipe for sure though
  16. I've always been meaning to get to this show, but something always come up, this year it's the snow! Sundays are always fun out near cotter/coppin crossing/uriara crossing, just watch out for cyclists.
  17. yeah damage is covered, but the first $400 or so (depending on age and insurer) is still up to you to pay. i think it's just the bulb that's busted, there doesn't appear to be any damage to the lens.
  18. has your airbox detached itself somehow, or the air filter busted itself open? that's the only reason i could think that you're getting a louder induction noise now. try looking in and around the airbox. the only thing that will damage the car is the boost spiking. since the 7A-FE isn't designed for a turbo you could potentially do a lot of damage. if it's spooling quite a lot more than usual i'd not drive it hard. make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected/working otherwise just drive it slowly until you get someone to look at it
  19. yeah i won't be getting rid of the sportivo kit, i just want a better looking rear bumper. even if i can find a lip/skirt to go around the rear would be enough meanwhile my g/f had a meeting with a gutter and now the front lip needs repair/repainting. the fog light on the side she hit is busted now too, this is going to be an expensive repair
  20. yeah doesn't sound good. my stagea had a similar problem like that, turns out the boost controller had been fiddled with at a dodgy mechanics place and was spiking. sounds to me like you've lost a vacuum hose.
  21. yep, you got it in one. well i'll stew on it a bit more, i just bought a heap of gear for my stagea, so the rolla has to wait her turn
  22. that's the exact part i'm looking for. the sportivo kit is nice, but the rear bar is stock. looks a bit odd with the lip, skirts and then no rear skirt following the lines around. needs to be lowered too, but that's a story for another day
  23. as the title suggests, i'm interested in some bodykit parts for my AE112. if anyone knows if aftermarket kits exist or are available please let me know, thanks.
  24. driveshaft in FF cars is like an axel, goes from hte gearbox to the wheels. in a FR car it goes from the gearbox to the dif, then transfers to axels. it's fairly elementary, my gf who knows nothing about her corolla knew what a driveshaft is.
  25. My fastest car would have to have been my R33 Skyline. had a few minor mods to it and stuck to the road like glue. i miss it a fair bit, but you gotta move on. Out of my current cars, the AE112R Turbo has a lot of power for a little car. the stagea is a bit heavier, but makes up for it in cylinders & AWD. i'd have to say they're on par (for now)
