  1. yeah so long as the gearbox is from a 1.8L not a 1.6 it'll fit I'm gathering.
  2. Awesome. I've found some cheap AE101/102 gearboxes to replace mine with, rather than forking out for a rebuild or an AE112 gearbox. The Sportivo only had a bolt on turbo, intercooler & oil cooler. I don't think they changed the gearbox. It doesn't have an LSD, that's for sure.
  3. Can anyone shed some light on my situation. I've got an AE112 corolla sportivo and i've just been told the bearings in the gearbox are shot. I think it's probably a lot cheaper to put a new gearbox on than repair this one. Can anyone confirm the gearbox from any 7A-FE will fit another, say from an AE96 or AE101. I can find a gearbox fairly cheaply from an older model corolla with the same engine, i just wanted to make sure the gearboxes are compatible. Cheers. Andrew
  4. Hey guys, I need some help doing some work on my car and I'm working in Orange every day so it's easier to get it serviced there. Does anyone know any good or bad mechanics in Orange so I can find someone who will look after my car and do good work on it? I've done a search on here and a few other forums but there doesn't seem to be many people out there who tune cars in Orange and post online. Cheers.
  5. We got the car back from the mechanics last week. They took the spare tyre, jack and toolkit, so now we're short one alloy wheel. the smash repairer said they can't get another wheel to match, so we have to get a steel wheel instead. the alarm is playing up and the battery keeps going flat. the drivers door panel is still smashed too. I don't know what these smash repairers actually repaired but it's a shithouse job.
  6. Thanks for that. Luckily you won't have to start searching, the car has been found. Police said it was stashed in someones backyard with a car cover over it. they've smashed a window and stolen the baby capsule out of the back seat. We'll get the full report tomorrow once forensics go over it, then work out either to get insurance to fix it or do it myself. It gives me the shits, it's just going to cost us a heap of money for some idiot who thought he could just take my car.
  7. Correct. It also makes it hard to keep hidden when the local paper posts an article about a 'Rare Car stolen". hopefully the community will look out for it and bring the dirty thieves down.
  8. We haven't had anyone in the house who we didn't know personally. They took the spare key which we keep next to the phone in the kitchen. I guess they just grabbed the first thing they saw which was the key and my wallet and took off with the car, nothing else has been touched. It's not like they can sell it for drugs or anything, it's a car. I don't understand why people steal cars, there wasn't anything good in it and it was as stock as corollas get. The neighbours said they saw someone dodgy driving slowly down our street in a suzuki swift yesterday so they might have been scoping out the neighbourhood.
  9. Hey guys, Just thought I'd put some feelers out. My 2001 AE112R Sportivo was stolen last night some time after midnight. They broke into the house and took the spare keys and made off with the car and my wallet. I'm in Bathurst but it had 3/4 tank of fuel, so it could be anywhere within 400km. Licence plate NSW - BDE-85U It's a pretty unique corolla, they're the gold ones with the bodykit: raised wing, front spoiler with driving lights, side skirts. Has Sportivo badge on the rear hatch and Turbo stickers on the qtr panels. It's got a baby capsule in the back seat and window socks on the rear windows. winnie the pooh window shades on the rear hatch and a shrek "baby on board" sitcker. It has black with pink trim 'breast cancer association' car seats. (Yes it was my girlfriends car, but I own it, don't laugh) Anywho, if anyone sees a car like it give me a yell. there were only 100 of these cars made so it shouldn't be too hard to spot. Thanks Leshy

  11. Let me know how his goes mate, as it's something I've been contemplating for a while now. I'm still a bit concerned it will void my warranty too, as I only have a used car warranty, not the genuine toyota warrany. It'll be a good mod though, the piping on these turbo's is rediculously long and all plastic.
  12. Got my car back yesterday. just shy of 4 months it took them to get me a new computer. I'll try my best to get to a meet now that I have a corolla again. My missus wants to fit the baby seat to it though, so it will look odd.
  13. Well, it's running so it's a start. there wasn't anything actually wrong with it before the incident, it just turned itself off all the time. Now it doesn't, which makes driving it a bit easier. I'm thinking very hard about going to see a solicitor, but I don't know if the amount I'll get off them will outweigh the costs of a lawyer. 4 months rego is only about $250
  14. Well I finally got my car back today. I think it's been almost 4 months since I got the problem. A new computer was made for my car and then installed yesterday, so hooray! Next time, I'll definately be more assertive.
  15. Oh, the computer shat itself in December, kept turning the car off after about 10 minutes of running time. It's a warranty job so they took their sweet arse time diagnosing and then approving the repairs. I was told in March it would take 3 weeks to order a new computer, turns out they mean 3 months as I won't be seeing a new computer until the end of May. It has to be ordered through Toyota Japan, then they get TOMS in the UK to manufacture the computer. I've written them a letter asking to please explain, and the next step is Dept of Fair Trading.
  16. Hey does anyone know someone who works at Phillip Toyota/Lexus. My corolla has been bounced between Belco and Woden since the start of Jan and I want to know what's going on with it. I miss my rolla.... :kiwi:
  17. Well I've had my claim approved, and was then told 3 weeks for the new computer. After 3 weeks (which isn't until tomorrow), they have now told me the computer has to be ordered through Toyota Japan, who then orders the computer through Tom's in the UK. this excercise is going to take until the end of May to arrive. I have sent a very well prepared letter to my dealer letting them know what has happened and how impressed I am with it, and in 10 days I will be lodging a formal complaint with the Office of Fair Trading. I think waiting 5 months for a new computer is a bit of a joke, especially when that's almost half of my yearly rego and insurance costs.
  18. I have a 3 year used car extended warranty from the dealer, which ends in 2009. Changing anything voids the warranty bascially. You can't even change your own oil.
  19. I'm keen to, but until the warranty runs out I'll be keeping it stock.
  20. I'm already attending with Skylines Australia, we'll be in section 42. If anyone wants to say hi come and see the guy standing by the silver Nissan Stagea. I'd bring the Corolla as well but it's been in the shop at belconnen and now phillip toyota getting a computer problem diagnosed and finally getting repaired for the last 2 months. An epic story, you can read about it in the AExx Discussion board if anyone is interested.
  21. I'm pretty sure Swan are going to go for the original. They've knocked Toyota down another $500 to get it made original. I spoke to Swan about the legality of installing an aftermarket computer and the effect that would have on passing rego, and voiding my current comprehensive insurance. There's no legal way they can install an aftermarket computer at the moment.
  22. For any of you who are still interested in my dilema, the car has now been at Toyota in Canberra for 2 months. The computer has been found to be at fault, and no amount of repairs could fix it. My Warranty (Swan Insurance) Have agreed to replace the computer, but have been in negotiations with Toyota over the price. They've bumped them down from $15,000 to $5,000. They are now looking at an aftermarket computer to see if they can reduce that cost even more, as there is a 3 week lead time on the new computer from Toyota. My question now, does anyone know of a plug-in replacement computer for the AE112? the computer is the same for both the standard model and the Sportivo except for the injector timing, so an aftermarket computer is probably programmable. SO if anyone knows of either a replacement or piggyback computer for the AE112 could they share this with me? I know it's probably a long shot but if I can source a computer faster than them it'll save me 3 more weeks on the bus. Cheers
  23. If they can't figure it out I'll tell them to give him a call. Hopefully the computer repairer can find the problem and sort it out.
  24. Nope, car is still at Toyota, the computer and imobiliser have been sent to a computer repair specialist in Sydney, still waiting to hear back from them about it. Toyota Head Office are investigating still as they have never seen this before.
  25. Well turns out the damage wasn't as bad as he originally thought, and they car has about another year or 2 of life left in it before it completely shags itself. I won't be needing to get that engine replaced now, but thanks for the offer.
