  1. Sunday is Father's Day - guess they figured attendance would be down if they had it on Sunday... Of course my wife just reckons they wanted to be able to race and get taken out for breakfast/lunch for Father's day - but she lives with me so of course she's cynical. :D
  2. Hi All, Next SDMA Hillclimb is this Saturday 1st Sept (not the usual Sunday) - should be at least 2 RollaClub members racing. Come out and cheer us on - or better yet, enter and compete. Spectator entry is free of charge. The hillclimb track is at Fairbairn Park on Sutton Rd. Kicks off about 9:30am and finishes about 3:00pm. Details on the SDMA site: http://www.sdmahillclimb.com/ I'll be there - look for the white AE82 Twin Cam with RollaClub & Specialised Trailers stickers. The Thomo Tailout special should also be there - and will no doubt snag the fastest ACT RollaClub member title - unless I gee him up enough that he parks it in the tyre wall at the first corner. :P Trendact has a very good excuse this time - kids sports take priority. Cheers, Todd
  3. Some vids from Thomo. - I assure you - it seems faster from the inside!! :y:
  4. Just wanted to give a big thanks to the Admins (esp. Irokin) for getting Rollaclub back online. I was going through withdrawal... Yeah, I know, need a life...
  5. We'll have to pitch in and get the AE of death ready then as it'd be great to have more of you guys out there. Some photos of the day: http://www.gt6.com/gallery/CarStuff/200707...imb/default.htm Thomo got some video footage which I'll have to come and grab and put up.
  6. Me thinks Thomo is a very happy man - and the Thomo Tailout Special lived up to it's name, but surprisingly only the once. It was a bloody cold track so there was virtually no tyre grip which made life interesting. Thomo managed a VERY BLOODY GOOD 56.20 as his best time for the day. For only his second meet, that is a bloody good time in a 1600cc NA car. Admittedly I handed him his arse on a platter with a 56.01 in a FWD car - and dropped my personal best in that car by .32 of a second - but then again I've been flogging that car around the track almost every month for a year or so now. And that time was a surprise - got it mostly right for a change. New swaybar made a big difference - you can get a FWD to do good oversteer! I'll gloat now, but next meet Thomo is going to cane my arse halfway into next year. If he isn't approaching the 54s I'll be bloody surprised. 'Twas a good fun day with heaps of friendly rivalry and Philba there to cheer us on.
  7. Hi All, Next SDMA Hillclimb is 29th July - should be at least 2 RollaClub members racing. Come out and cheer us on - or better yet, enter and compete. The hillclimb track is at Fairbairn Park on Sutton Rd. Kicks off about 9:30am and finishes about 3:00pm. Details on the SDMA site: http://www.sdmahillclimb.com/ I'll be there testing out my newly installed (by ACT RollaClub team) front sway bar - look for the white AE82 Twin Cam with RollaClub & Specialised Trailers stickers. The Thomo Tailout special should be finally getting a run too - promises to be spectacular. We won't mention that a certain AE71 won't be appearing - some lame excuses I bet about being busy and having a family... Maybe the next meeting will have to be dedicated to getting it ready. Cheers, Todd
  8. Ah Steve, you know we only drop in so we can bludge parts and borrow your hoist because you're such a great bloke! I'd say you're going soft Brett but it was f-f-f-f-f-freezing last time.
  9. Hey, Happy Birthday dude.
  10. Yep - I have that problem with my 86kw 4AGE in my AE82 - caused by dodgy idle control valve on throttle body, letting too much air in at idle when warm because it can no longer shut consistently. The 4AGE manual gives a rundown on how to check for this which I don't have handy at the moment. Haven't fixed it yet - it's a replace or block off job.
  11. Nothing broke - always good. Still waiting on results - wasn't paying as much attention to results this meet as I was too busy chatting to mates & family. Some photos - not many, see above...
  12. Doh! That's a big shame. You have PM.
  13. Is the AE71 ready for Sunday?
  14. I've been racing it with loose bits from the start...doubt I'll notice the difference.
  15. Hi All, Next SDMA Hillclimb is 20th May - should be at least 3 RollaClub members racing. Come out and cheer us on - or better yet, enter and compete. The hillclimb track is at Fairbairn Park on Sutton Rd. Kicks off about 9:30am and finishes about 3:00pm. Details on the SDMA site: http://www.sdmahillclimb.com/ I'll be there trying to beat my best time (56.33) and testing out the new el cheapo race seat and the Thomo special wheel alignment. You'll see me, I have the big RollaClub sticker on the back of my white twin cam. Thomo should be there in his white KE30 and Trendact may be there (stir, stir) in a red AE71. Cheers, Todd
  16. Pull your finger out Brett. :y: And a very big thanks to Thomo for coffee, conversation, advice and parts. Big help in keeping low buck motorsport low buck. Doesn't stop me from wanting to cane your arse on the track (reckon I have another meet of talking big before you know the track better and hand me my arse on a platter). :P Anyway, message has been given before, but I'll give it again. See Thomo at Pharley's for anything automotive/trailer related. All round nutter good bloke.
  17. Not sure how long ago Type 1/2 was combined, it was run seperately but I guess there just weren't enough entries. I'm not fussed, we're not playing for sheep stations here. As long as I get to drive fast legally, I'm happy. It is huuuuuuge fun, cannot recommend it highly enough. I never really thought of myself as a competitive person, but after my first run and totally garbage time (and this was in a tarmac rally 12A PP RX7 - so driver's fault not cars) I was HOOKED and said to myself "I can do way better than that" and month after month I have been. I get a massive charge out of beating my previous meets time - that to me is the challenge, beating my previous best every month. The great thing too is the amount of encouragement you get when you're a rookie - the people were fantastic at my first race and all the positive comments I got really spurred me on. I'm enjoying getting slowly closer to Martin's times, and the challenge is doing it on a budget. As far as I'm aware, Martin's car has been done on a budget as well, he's done nearly all the work and the car has evolved over many years. And he can drive - I'd love to see him have a go in the Waterhouse MX5 that currently holds the Type 1/2 0-1600cc record. Remember there are plenty of people out there who throw large amounts of money at cars and still can't drive. Or like me, small amounts and can't drive. :jamie: If I were you Brett, I'd just drop in the working engine and take it out there and run it. When your times start to be consistent (or if the car feels really bad at speed around a corner), make a mod and see if the times improve. Half the fun is making tweaks and seeing if there is any change. I got a pleasant surprise last meet when I did a basic engine service (plugs, leads, K&N Filter, upper head cleaner and injector cleaner) and knocked a whole second off my time. I like the idea of the Rolla Club challenge - it'll add some more fun to it. Grassroots motorsport - is there anything better? Do I sound somewhat obssessed... :y:
  18. For SDMA (and most clubs these days) Type 1 & 2 is combined. Regs are...vague. See here: Categories & Classes. Other bigger clubs use slightly more strict rules along the lines of the NSW Supersprint regs: NSW Supersprint Vehicle Type Regs But for us in SDMA in Type 1/2 it is:
  19. Bit of a gray area exactly what mods are allowed. Type 1 is definitely show room stock, but Type 2 allows a reasonable amount of mods - so there is a pretty wide range in Type 1/2. In Type 2 I think you can work the engine pretty thoroughly (but no increase in capacity except for purposes of recon...), exhaust is free but inlet/carby/EFI has to be stock (that is the limiting factor on the engine mods basically), suspension is free as long as pickup points don't change (and no coilovers) and sway bars are fine. No LSD if they didn't come delivered with one in Australia, etc. Brakes must be standard but pad material is free. You get the idea, core components standard but tweaks allowed in many areas. Martin has been challenged on it before (fairly often I believe, not surprisingly) - and he was club champion a few years ago in the same car - so I'd say he has just pushed the limits of Type 2 right to the edge. As you may be able to tell I like Martin, he's given me heaps of valuable advice and has always been very friendly. But I'm determined to beat that bloody Gem... But that's OK - we'll just race amongst ourselves and have the Rolla Club Challenge. Now Brett - was that $40 on the table about the Gem being stock or you being the initial Champion? :jamie:
  20. We have to beat Martin C in his Gemini - which is no easy task, the boy can drive and the Gem is well setup. My best is 56.33 - his is around 53.2x... Hopefully the young bloke in the standard AE82 will be back as well - 4 Rolla's in the one class.
  21. Woohoo! Another challenger. :sob:
  22. Bring it on! You be ready for the 20th of May?
  23. I agree with 7Shades - especially as the local hillclimb track is fairly short on straights. Yep, some power is nice, but better to spend your money on making it handle. And - put a 4AGE in it you'll race against Thomo (if he ever finishes the KE30 :jamie:) or leave the 4AC in it and race against me.
  24. Brett - new project wouldn't have anything to do with a wanted ad on AllClassifieds would it? And Thomo - a 58 in the KE55 is not bad at all - crappy tyres, shagged suspension and an engine with a fair few horses that have bolted. First time out in the AE82 I got a 58.69 - but that was with brand new tyres, shocks and springs. If the KE30 goes in Type 3 maybe I'll have to get some R Spec tyres, gut the interior of the AE82 and we can go head to head. 8-) At least we wouldn't be racing against Paul or that Clio - now that would be depressing.
  25. Spill the beans! And a link to photos.
