  1. Hi,

No I know what I'm doing I just what to do it right as I need my car so I wanna know everything that can or could go wrong or hold me up and then go at it so I don't lose time.

I have build 2 chev's and build jet engine so I have a fai idea about mechanics.

With the gear box input shaft for allignment of the clutch I'm in Ipswich Brisbane if your close. It would be a big help.

  2. Hi,

The gasket I talk about I was meaning isnt there a seal between the motor and the gear box? or do the two metal surface just bolt up together?

Also the clutch shudder in the torana was from the original clutch holden put in when we redid it it went away. And we found out holden did it up wrong (when removing some bolts were looser). And the car had it since new the shudder.

When you say miss allignment of the clutch could cause shudder how do you over come this? As I don't have an allignment tool (shaft from an old gear box). How do I then allign it? As I though I bolt clutch to fly wheel with plate in centre or as close as possible then I just slide gear box on?

Also does anyone have a list o what I should do first to remove the gear box? what is the best way to attack it so I don't undo the wrong things first and then delay my self for hours?

    Thanks

    Cameron

  3. Hi,

Well fingers crossed ratio is stamped on the diff as it is a blown diff so can't turn it..lol

With the fly wheel if you put it on wrong you will get shudder as this happened on the torana when we had the motor out so if possible the torque settings would be great :lolcry:

With the flex plate if the one on the KE70 doesnt allign with my 3K motor can I use the one on the KE30 4 speed to adapt it? As I am a bit un sure about how to go about it? Will I be able to use one or do I need a new flex plate?

Also with the gasket between the motor and the box is it reusable and if not how much do they cost?

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

OK back on topic the cross member will have to be drilled if I have to use my original one I got in my KE30. But can I use the one from the KE70 and use it in the KE30 so I don't have to drill holes in the original?

Also I have read some diff's in the KE70 5 speeds were different ratios to the diff the 4 speed had. This will mean even if my speedo cable fits in to the box I will have an inaccurate speedo. How can I over come this? Also what can I do to find out what diff my car has to see if it is different or the same ratio as the KE70 and find out if my speedo will be different?

Also the clutch I have on my KE30 if it is worn I will use the fly wheel and clutch from the KE70 will this then match the input shaft on the box? And will it all still meet up? And since I will be removing the fly wheel off the motor does anyone have the torque settings for the flywheel bolts on a 3K motor to set my torque wrench to so I don't warp the fly wheel?

Also how heavy is on of these K50 boxes could a average man lift one by him self?

    Thanks

    Cameron

  5. Hi,

If my spedo cable will be different is it a matter of swapping the one from KE70 into my KE30? will it affect speedo reading?

Also what clutch and fly wheel will be better one from the KE30 or KE70? Do they both have the same hole pattern?

As the KE70 has a racing 6 spring clutch mine has standard KE30 clutch with 375,000km on it..lol

Also witht eh cross member will I have to drill any new holes?

As I have about 1 week ot do the change and I need the car going so do you guys know any hassels that might come up fixes and anything else I should know?

    Thanks

  6. Hi All,

Today I picked up a working 5 speed gear box out of a KE70 for $50 (has the rest of a car hanging off it but..lol)

I want to install this into my KE30 that currently runs a 3K and a 4 speed box.

So my main question is to fit it ill I need to remove the engine or can it go in from under neath? Also I know I have to cut the shifter hole back more but will this mean I need a shorter tail shaft?

Also will this gear box bolt up to a 3K motor no problem or is the input shaft etc different?

    Thanks

    Cameron

P.S. once I got the box out the car the car will be for sale and my parents said it can sit in the yard for 2 weeks so if anyone near ipswich wants a good KE70 (blown diff. But has had head work to motor) make me and offer and ill let you know when you can pick it up.

  7. Hi,

I know in the photo it isnt a geminni but I was thinking of buying one.

I want a diesel mainly for economy and torque not brute power. IF I wanted that I could get my uncels 16L worm V8 diesel motor with twin turbos and a super charger on it to power the rolla as he is selling it right now

So I was mainly looking to know has anyone done an engine change or something like this guy has at that web page in an old style corolla and can they take it?

  8. Hi,

If you think it was a local try and get the robbers to come to you.

How you say?Well they will either want the gear or needed to sell it as centerlink wasn't giving them enough money and they need more.

So if they are trying to sell the gear place wanted adds in the local papers notice boards and with ur mobile number on it and then see if they call you and well you might get the gear back.

For the car alarm forget the $1400 fancy plastic units. I made mine for about $100 and it works GREAT.

All I did was use a 555 timer for the brain of the unit so when the car door was opened (even with key) it starts to count when it hit my set time (was 20 seconds if I hadn't turned the car to accessories the alarm would go off. I placed a switch on the boot (had a switch in the boot to shut it off to so I didn't need to have car on when opening the boot. Also had a switch on the bonnet and the doors. And if your head deck is in the glove box why not one there. Was simple to make I built it in no joke 30min. And can get all the parts at the local dick smith. This system can also be wired into the $20 central locking kits you can buy for your car at super cheap auto.

But what I have recently done to my DIY alarm is removed the siren and wired it into a fuel solenoid I placed right above the tank. If the alarm is not shut off it wont open. So if a robber decides to take the car well it dies after he gets around the corner. You might say now with out a siren this doesn't stop the robbers getting your stereo. Well in my car I don't have one and this fuel system way I use is silent and has saved my car 4 times from being stolen. And when it is your ride to work id rather have a car and lose the standard casett deck..lol

  9. Hi,

The main reason is that I would love to make a corolla diesel powered and do it up as something different. As I was initally looking to sell my KE30 and get a gemmini diesel. But then at:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Corolla

I saw there was a diesel corolla made in the years between 1984-87 with a diesel motor and the motor was a 1C. This was the first generation of rolla to see the diesel motor (it was fifth gen of rolla but) and in the sixth gen it also saw this motor. But this time it was the 1C-III and made 67HP

I know a K block could not handle the compression of a diesel but can we get one of the 1C motors and work it into a KEXX corolla?

As the 1C motor produced 58HP and was 1.8L in displacement.

I would thing for an engine change like this you would need to strengthen the front end of a rolla to handle the added weight of the motor but also the torque created by a diesel.

    Thanks

    Cameron

  10. Hi,

I happen to be reading some where on the net that the old KEXX series corolla was released with a diesel motor in it. I was wondering is this true and if so are they rare to pick up?

Also does anyone know if the liteace that used the K series motor ever came with a diesel motor if it did can we place this into our corollas if they didn't have a diesel motor from the factory?

  11. Hi,

All of a sudden people are now saying not to use a 3K head on a 4K motor? Why? As if you increase your compression you get more power on the cheap. And at the rate a 3K head can be collected at the wreckers why not do it?

As what are the down falls of using one?

Also one of you said if you jet your carby right you will not get detonation. But at a 10:1 ration a 3K head will give you on a 4K motor if I'm right the air in the cylinder will be so hot the fuel will be burning before the piston is TDC. So giving you car more fuel is this cooling the air more so it isn't detonating the fuel? Or is this to run it rich so the stoichiometric ration is to high and it can't burn easy? As if any of these options are right I would thing you are losing valuable kilowatts when we all ready only have a hand full.

So my point was to try and make a water injection system like used on the old morris minor and then run up the compression. This will enable us to jet our carby's to the closest we can get to the perfect stoichiometric ratio of 15:1 and stop the detonation. The water mist will also just up compression more so if we went this way we could get maximum power out of a 4K with increased compression instead of trying to suppress detonation and losing power in the process. And then what is the point of using a 3K head?

Also does anyone have any in depth info on water injection?

    Cameron

P.S. Just so some of you know we can't burn fuel at the perfect stoichiometric ratio in a motor as it would burn so hot it would melt every metal we could make a motor out of. I know as I build jet engines and well we can burn it close but not spot (even in jets) lol

  12. Hi All,

I am looking at modifying a 4K motor to put in to a KE30. But I see when people put the 3K head on the 4K motor it goes to 10:1 CR. With this do you guys have to use high octain fuel or do you use the standard pump fuel?

Also in morris minors they had a water mist injection to stop detonation. If we use a CR of 10:1 could we use this set up so we only need to use standard fuel if we don't want to or can't afford high octain unleaded at 98?

  14. Hi,

Nice work on the rolla in the photos with the celica box going in.

I think I would rather stay with the K range of motors so it is easier to get rego as in QLD if u put wild seat covers on u risk having to up grade your car to make it legal it is so tight..lol

But I was able to find a good wrecker in Ipswich today that sells a fair amount of corolla stuff so I am trying to get an old KE1X or KE2X from him as I like them more as there lighter so faster.

But I saw one guy said that he was at willobank once and couldn't get a box to ft in his rolla. Do you guys meet at Willowbank as I am a 10 minute drive away so would love to pop in one day?

Also with the distributor off the 5K motor will it fit into a 3K with no hassle eg gear on end of shaft ratio..etc as I want to go electric dizzy in rolla to ditch points . And I have heard from some people that the end of the run KE70 with the 4K did get some electric ignition modules in them is this true?

    Thanks

  15. hi,

On my 3K I tied string around the oil cap and to the air intake filter holder. If it pops off (regulary) it stays on and if the string is in the right spot it gets agood tight seal and doesnt come off. But for $4 at the local super cheap I can get a oil breather for car all chrome and it is filled with air filter foam and lets fuems vent? will this be good or am i loosing valuble pressure I need in the head area on the rockers?

  17. Hi,

    Thanks for all the replies.

Unfortunately my friends mum wont let him sell the corolla in pieces no more ;) but a whole car, but for whole KE30 he wants $300 not bad but. I got my corolla..lol

So I went to the wrecker and asked for a 4K motor. They had one minus carby, distributor and pollution gear (no loss.lol) $380. GET REAL.

So for now ill stick with my 3K motor. As I see the 4K is only 200cc bigger. As I am short on money so ill leave it for now.

But I was curious to know is the 4K just a bored out 3K block or did Toyota redo a whole new block?

And does anyone know of a person in the Brisbane district that has an old KE1X or KE2X that would have one for sale? As I prefer the body shape and there smaller so I would like to do one of these up.

Also reading at Wiki the 2T-G motor produced 124HP in the KE30. Can these motors fit onto the K40 trans or were they a different transition? As I would like to get one day an old KE1x/KE2X and have a hot 4K or 5K motor in it or if possible with minimal hassle a 2T-G motor.

But for my final question the 5K to install legally into my car I need to upgrade brakes but can go to a 4K with no changes so for power would it really be worth adding a 5K motor to the car? And can it be done up as much? Or if possible has anyone used a 7K?

    Thanks

  18. Hi rolla fans,

About 3 months ago now I was given a KE30 rolla with a 3K motor in it sporting a 100% stock parts and a K40 trans and standard axle. But the car has 375,000 KM on it and has never had a rebuild and is still going good and blows no smoke. But it is starting to die now :) As in a cold morning I can run battery flat starting and it has lost nearly all power and the clutch is heavily worn.

So I figured time for a rebuild but then though it easier to install a new motor. I was able to pick up a 4K that has 100,00Km on it and a 6 spring racing clutch after market hardened valve seat and a minor head shave for AU$50. But first a few questions.

It was mounted on a 5 speed box so will the input shaft fit my 4 speed box? Also my KE30 is a 1976 I think off top of head and it is from a KE70 built in 83 so will it all go in?

Also I noticed the pollution control on the motor is a nightmare. Can I use the one of my KE30 motor that is horrendously simple compare to it? And when removing the 4K motor from the donor car is the anti pollution system hooked into any body bits or can i leave it untouched on body?

Also for future mods can I just remove the timing chains from the 3K and place on the 4K motor and the head with easy and no fuss? Also what model K motor had the electronic ignition as I want to ditch the points system as they are a shit of a thing to work with.

Also if I use my 3K head on motor what HP will I expect to see from the motor?

    Thanks

    Cameron
