Just got a carby kit from Veale for 55 came with everything even a diagram. Took about half day to take the whole carb off clean it. Take off the top replace the gaskets plunger and clean the jets. It's not too complicated but if u have no mechanical experience it can be a challenge. 6/10 on difficulty scale haha

Yep, got a generic 1.6 ohm from repco and that solved it. Thanks guys!!

Hey guys, My Ke55 runs when I put my foot on accelerator and crank it, then dies soon as I turn the starter off. My ideas is that its something to do with ignition system. Coil or balast resistor? Havent had the time to check them with my multimeter yet but i will tomorrow. any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a vacuum leak perhaps. Try lighting a sigarete, blow some smoke or just hold the siggie in one spot. around carby and manifold while its running and see if smoke it attracted to one area.

Is the gearbox in neutral? I remember puting a Borg Warner 35 into my cortina years ago and it was a bitch to line up too

Whoa, yeah you got lucky there mate! I once got an N12 pulsar (worst car in the world in retrospect) of some Aboriginals on my street. I just wanted parts off it for my clunky N12. Towed it home, open the bonnet and this thing had extractors, new alternator, new water pump and recond head! I was canibalising that car all through my uni degree and dint spend one cent on spare parts for about 4 years :P :P

Yeah I know that they all should be close and i guess they are apart from cylinder 2. The history of the car is as follows; My mates grandmother got it brand new in 1978 from Don Rogers (dodgy car dealer back in the day). Then she proceeded to own it until last year when she gave up get licence at age of 90. Then my mate took over for a year, having done zero maintenance. I had a GSXR 1000 with hi comp JE pistons that I tested and that got 190. Did it with the same gauge. Maybe over time the spring in the gage got weak. The car has 235000 on the dial. I doubt an old lade would of gotten the motor rebuild and head shaved LOL

Hey guys just did compression test on a warm engine with all plugs out and gas pedal to the floor, results as follows: 1. 190 psi, or 13 bar 2. 180 psi, or 12.5 bar 3. 195 psi, or 13.5 bar 4. 190 psi, or 13 bar Are these a little high? I remembr doing the same test on old charade and getting 140s

But all my beautiful bog will fall out too :(

Nah just what I had lying around, plastic bog. But once i get paid I might buy a fibreglass kit and cover the bogged spathes with it over the top.

Yeah it is, I got the car for free so I can't complain, can't weld and don't have a workshop so I can't really fix her up properly with rust cutting out n welding n all that so I'm just doing best I can to bring her back to life and looking not perfect but respectable. I just want it to drive nice not really bothered if the body looks dodgy, so once i shoot some brown paint on it I'm thinking a carby rebuild kit, head service (guides, springs, seals) perhaps new piston rings and street cam. I like the 4 speed cause I'm lazy and don't like changing gears LOL

Yup! Tried out today but the disk kept fouling up with paint, so once I get paid this week I will buy a coarser disk I think.

I tried 80 grit wet n dry and it takes a long time to sand through because its layered on with gun thats meant for fences and walls not painting cars hahaha

Pretty proud of this fender! I should go study fine arts majoring in sculpture :P More slow progress......... The carport-workshop :)

Hey all, My car has a layer of acrylic paint that has been applied with a bunnings electric spray gun over unprepared original paint. The paint does not hold to the original very well (because it wasnt sanded), so I want to remove it. I don't really wanna take of all paint to bare metal. Can anyone suggest a good method? The paint I'm trying to remove is around 6 months old. Any help and advice appreciated! -Kirill

I wouln't wanna be in a crash in any car from the 70s....unless its a volvo! I read your post on that rally car u got that was all messed up, good read! I checked all the strut towers and box sections underneath the car and they are all not deformed. This car had plenty of small accidents because it was driven by a 90yr old granny but nothing that deformed the geometry just cosmetic damage.

Small update, used expand foam to shape the rotten cavity on the RHS fender. Then layered bog on top, spent some time with heat gun shrinking it then applied another layer. Its starting to take shape now. The LHS fender is looking a lot better too, I'm very happy with it Then finally started the car up at the end of the day so the battery keeps charge as its very old and weak :)

....and another day of boging, started with wheel arch, it was wonky so out comes the ol tub of bog... Next I mounted the LHS front fender back and used some liquid nails to glue it to the chassis as the bottom mounting holes are so rusted......well non existent... yeh yeh I know I need to buy new panel but oh well Next was the rear boot part, took off the paint and........ found old rotten bog, so It was fish oil treatment then NEW and exiting bog! The really badly dented fender is starting to take shape I'm not done with it just primed it so it doesn't rust This thing got a hit up the arse and rear tail light was pushed in so I used my trusty wooden block and hammer got it as straight as I could.... ...and more bog :P I should buy some shares in a company that makes bog hey :)

Yup the front cross member is rusty but only as some points where it was spot welded, its not that bad ( boged it too lol). The no wet n dry on bog is actually really good advice! thanks. What I usually done in the past was only apply bog in small layers and give few hours to set. Then I would use heat gun to slightly heat up the panel. Then I would let the car sit for few days. I never had the shrinking or bubbling bog problem before this way.

I'm not after perfection Parrot, yes I could buy some doors and fenders and not bother trying to panel beat the panels myself but to be honest I rather those good fenders and doors go to another car that is worthy of them. This car is old and tired and I want to show the cars character. Its not going to be perfect when i paint it but have you seen those old cars in cuba? haha You can tell by looking at them that they are full of bog and panels are all out of alignment but please don't tell me you would not want to own one :P

Update of what i done today, sorted the LHS fender with some saning and some bog, its staring to look alright. The rear got some sanding and bog too, still lots to do but getting there. Start the day with some panel beating, sanding, bog, and ofcourse cheap german beer! After some more beer and some wet n dry 80 grit.... Sanding some rear pilar area revealed some stage 4 cancer! And previous bog repair job Bog Bog BOG!! This is the best i could do with a hemmer and wooden block, took my time made sure it was all square, and cracked another beer Bog bog BOG!!! Starting too look ok eh? Question: How do I take off the layer of paint my mate put on (the blue one) and not sand back to bare metal? Paint stripper?

Hey guys, got given a KE55 for free. Never had one of these old school cars. Dents on every panel :( Its a total rust bucket with whole left hand side made of bog pretty much. I took off the door trims to hammer the doors out but I found some silly side protection channels preventing me from fixing the doors properly so Its only more bog from now on. I'm gonna learn how to repair body and hopefully make something that looks ok. Done up an old charade like that once and it came out pretty good and cost me 300 buks worth of paint and sandpaper :P. Previous owner sprayed it baby blue using an electric spray gun from bunnings and what looks like house paint LOL. He really had no idea what he was doin. Anyways heres some pics.
